Oklahoma vs West Virginia Prediction, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

Neither Oklahoma (5-4, 2-3) nor West Virginia (3-6, 1-5) would like to remember this season, as both teams have struggled. In September, Oklahoma was ranked sixth, but that has quickly faded, and it has not been ranked in the AP Top 25 outside that month. West Virginia did not have that level of expectations, but for a team, often in a Bowl game, it seems unlikely now.

Last week, the Sooners lost to Baylor 38-35, with their offense moving the ball at will, but mistakes ended their two-game win streak. The Mountaineers struggled against Iowa State, losing 31-14.

Oklahoma Discipline Issue

After losing three straight games, including one horrific 49-0 loss in the Red River Showdown, Oklahoma had found a way to win again. The offense was balanced, with quarterback Dillon Gabriel and running back Eric Gray playing well. Turnovers were still an issue, along with just bad defense, which led to the loss to Baylor.

In the latest two wins, Gabriel played well, combining for 551 passing yards, most of it coming against Kansas, with three touchdowns, an interception, and also rushing for two touchdowns. Facing Baylor, he continued to be solid, with 261 yards and contributed three touchdowns, but the issue was that he also threw three interceptions, all in the first half.

However, with the mix of Gabriel’s interceptions and the defense allowing 281 rushing yards, the Sooners could not pull off the win, despite outperforming Baylor’s offense.

West Virginia Continues to Struggle

The loss to Iowa State was West Virginia’s third straight, with their last win coming against Baylor in a crazy 43-40 game. For a Mountaineers offense that has been solid for the most part, but were contained by Iowa State’s defense. They are averaging 32.1 points and 409.6 yards on the season but were held to just 14 points and 200 yards.

It also wasn’t that the offense was turning the ball over, quarterback JT Daniels had the only turnover, an interception in the first half, they just got out played. The Mountaineers’ offense could get nothing going against a good defense, with their second touchdown on their last drive after the game was already over.

On defense, they have struggled, having not kept an opponent under 30 points in the last five weeks, giving up over 40 points three times during that span. They are giving up 34.2 points per game and 414 yards, which the offense has been able to keep up with, but they could not last week.

Oklahoma vs West Virginia Picks & Prediction

This will be a game between teams that have struggled on defense, giving up over 30 points and 400 yards per game. However, each team’s offense more than makes up for the lack of defense. Even though the West Virginia offense was shut down last week, it was because they faced a good defense, which Oklahoma does not have.

The over 66½-point total might be a solid bet, but there is also a good chance the Mountaineers cover the 8-point spread, as the Sooners’ offense still tends to make mistakes.
