Ole Miss to Cover As Double-Digit Underdog vs Georgia

It is hard to believe that SEC powers Georgia and Ole Miss haven’t met since 2016. There’s plenty riding on this matchup with both Georgia and Ole Miss in the top 10 in both national polls and in the College Football Playoff rankings. When it comes to the college football betting lines, Georgia is the 10½-point favorite.

The last time the teams met at Georgia was in 2012 with the Bulldogs rolling to the 37-10 win.

Georgia takes a 36-game regular-season winning streak into Saturday’s matchup. Georgia is 1-4-1 against the spread (ATS) at home so far during the 2023 season.

Georgia can wrap up a spot in the SEC Championship Game with a win on Saturday.

Ole Miss is already without receiver Qua Davis and fellow receiver Zakhari Franklin is questionable for Saturday’s game.

Georgia continues to play without All-American tight end Brock Bowers. Linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. (14 tackles) is questionable while linebackers Jamon Dumas-Johnson (34 tackles, 3½ sacks) and E.J. Lightsey and running back Roderick Robinson are all out.

When looking at the college football futures odds, Georgia (+250) trails only Michigan (+230) in the odds of winning the national title with Ole Miss well back at +30000 in the championship odds.

Georgia is second behind Ohio State in the College Football Playoff rankings. Ole Miss moved up from 10th to ninth.

Georgia received 104 of the 127 first-place votes in the two national polls with Ole Miss 10th in both rankings.

Ready for Back-And-Forth Affair

Georgia has been winning but it hasn’t always been pretty.

Georgia has been favored by at least 10 points in each of the games this season and has covered only twice. Three of the SEC games have been decided by 10 points or less.

When Ole Miss faced Alabama, the Rebels led at halftime and they won a wild affair with LSU, so why not expect to see the Rebels to go toe-to-toe with the two-time defending national champions?

Ole Miss will rely on star running back Quinshon Judkins, who has three straight 100-yard games and rushed for 177 yards in the LSU win.

He is one of the reasons why the Rebels are 6-2-1 against the Las Vegas college football odds over the last nine games.

Keep an Eye on the Quarterbacks

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart and Carson Beck of Georgia rank third and fourth, respectively, in the SEC in passing efficiency. They have combined for 32 touchdown passes with eight interceptions.

Three different Ole Miss players have between 38 and 44 catches as Dart has been spreading things around.

Tre Harris, a Louisiana Tech transfer, leads the way with 749 yards, but it is a mistake to count out Georgia receiver Ladd McConkey in the big games.

Don’t be surprised to see both teams airing it out early to try to take the early lead.

Georgia Will Find A Way

Georgia hasn’t won 36 straight regular-season games by accident. However, the Bulldogs have struggled to cover this season.

Among teams from the Power-5 conference, only Baylor, Illinois, Mississippi State, Southern California, and Vanderbilt have performed worse against the NCAA football betting lines.

Ole Miss is 5-2-1 against the spread in its last eight games as a double-digit underdog.

Look for the Rebels to make life difficult for the Bulldogs.

The teams have combined to kick field goals on 25 drives that reached the red zone this season. The team that is able to turn promising drives into touchdowns rather than field goals will have the edge.

Keep in mind that Ole Miss leads the SEC with a turnover margin of +8 and is tied for the conference lead with 14 takeaways. It should be noted that Georgia has been penalized just 39 times this season and that is the best mark in the SEC. Ole Miss has had 25 more accepted penalties against them than Saturday’s opponent.

Georgia had won its last 21 games at Sanford Stadium by at least 10 points before last week’s 30-21 win over Missouri.

Look for Georgia to win another game but Ole Miss is a solid choice to cover as a road underdog.

College Football Pick: Ole Miss +10½
