We weren’t expecting much from the Golden Bears, but they are exceeding our predictions of how bad they would be. After a 2-0 start, this team has fallen apart and gone 1-4 since Week 3. They were smoked by Washington State (28-9) and lost in back-to-back weeks to Colorado and Washington in the lead-up to this game.
The problem with this team is an inability to score as they rank outside the top 100 in points per game (21.5) Their defense is ok, especially on the ground, but without the ability to score, it doesn’t matter.
For what little scoring they do muster, it relies heavily on the passing game. Cal throws more passes than all but 11 other teams in the nation and runs the ball around 40% of the time. Oregon’s passing defense doesn’t rank too well, but they have been facing much stiffer competition.
