1. Nittany Lions Huge Favorites for a Reason
It has been a successful year for the Nittany Lions, who lost their only game to the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes 20-13. The Buckeyes are one of the best teams in the country and are well-backed with NCAA football futures odds to win the title as the -325 betting favorite.
Following its only loss, Penn State scored a 35-6 victory over Washington, which was an excellent bounce-back effort. However, we are concerned by narrow road wins over Wisconsin and USC.
The Nittany Lions defeated USC on the road 33-30 in overtime and Wisconsin 28-13, which makes backing them to cover a -28½ NCAAF spread difficult. With that being said, Purdue is a terrible team that has been getting blown out by the best teams in the country.
Penn State tight end Tyler Warren has been exceptional and he’s in line to win postseason honors.
“I can’t see how this guy doesn’t win the Mackey Award and the Paul Hornung Award,” coach James Franklin said of Warren. “And they’d be proud of that guy representing their award because he does everything right, both on and off the field.”

2. Backing Purdue is a Big Risk
Betting on a 1-8 team comes with big risk, regardless of what line sports betting odds are offering as an underdog.
There aren’t too many positives to say about Purdue, which comes off a heavy 45-0 loss to the Buckeyes. It followed a better game when losing 26-20 to Northwestern, but losing games to Northwestern and Illinois in overtime doesn’t help its psyche.

Standing with no conference wins, the Boilermakers are already looking to 2025. They lost to the Wildcats as -3½ favorites at home, and welcoming Penn State won’t make life any easier. A lack of offense is hurting their chances, having scored a bagel in two of their last three games.
Scoring no points could be on the cards against a tough Penn State defense, so if Purdue doesn’t turn up and take the fight to the Nittany Lions, it will suffer another heavy defeat in front of home fans.
