Championship Week has arrived, when teams can make or break their seasons with conference titles on the line. In the Big Ten Championship Game, the Purdue Boilermakers and No. 2 Michigan Wolverines will clash at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium.
After dominating Ohio State 45-23, Michigan has emerged as the second favorite to win the national championship with +300 odds. The Wolverines (12-0) look like the Big Ten’s new powerhouse. This is Purdue’s first Big Ten West title in program history. When the Boilermakers (8-4) are underdogs, they are 3-3 against the spread (ATS).
Let’s check the latest college football odds, stats, injury reports and college football lines for Purdue vs Michigan. We’ve plenty of NCAA football odds for you to consider.
Boilermakers Look to Air it Out
Before facing Indiana in Rivalry Week, Purdue was averaging under 20 points over a four-game span and was 1-3 ATS. With a conference title game berth on the line, the Boilermakers looked back to normal in the 30-16 win and cover against the Hoosiers.
There is some question over the status of Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell, who announced on Sunday that his older brother, Sean, had died recently. O’Connell was away from the team to be with his family, but Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm said on Monday that he expected his quarterback to play against Michigan.
O’Connell’s 290 passing yards was his highest mark over the last month. Purdue features a pass-heavy attack, averaging 42 pass attempts per game (sixth). The Boilermakers will need more of that as Michigan’s pass defense ranks 11th compared to its Big Ten-best rush defense. Also, the Wolverines allowed over 300 passing yards against Ohio State in their previous game. Top wideout Charlie Jones, who has posted over 100 yards in four of the last six, could be a good prop bet this week.
On defense, Purdue will be all hands on deck to stop Michigan’s run game. The Wolverines rank sixth in rushing yards per game while the Boilermakers are 38th in run defense. The defense has played well, holding opponents to 12.5 points per game in the last two weeks. This has led to the under in back-to-back games. However, it surrendered over 200 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry against Indiana.
The Boilermakers hope to return several injured players, including defensive tackle Branson Deen and starting center Gus Hartwig. Purdue must hold up in the trenches against Michigan, which is one of college football’s most physically imposing squads.
Is Michigan the New Powerhouse of the Big Ten?
The Wolverines are chasing back-to-back Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances. Following quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s breakout performance with over 250 passing yards against Ohio State, this team has a great chance to win it all.
To make the Ohio State win even more impressive, Michigan was missing several key contributors. Running back Blake Corum, who leads the team with 1,463 rushing yards, is the roster’s best player. Corum attempted to play, but his knee was clearly not right and he finished with two touches. In addition, the Wolverines’ top pass rusher Mike Morris (seven sacks) was held out for most of the game. Keep an eye on Corum and Morris’ status; both are questionable.
Still, do not be hesitant to back Michigan this weekend. Running back Donovan Edwards comes off 216 rushing yards and two touchdowns. As usual, the Wolverines’ offensive line, which is probably the best in the country, wore the opponent down, leading to a dominant run game in the fourth quarter. At times, Michigan’s wide receivers have struggled to get open. That was not the case against OSU, as the Wolverines had three passing touchdowns of over 40 yards.

Purdue vs Michigan Picks & Prediction
I went with Michigan to cover last week against Ohio State, but no one expected the Wolverines to win by over 20. Keep rolling with the Wolverines. Purdue ranks 53rd in allowed yards per game and Michigan is third in yards per carry. Also, the Boilermakers are 77th in allowed yards per pass attempt, while Michigan comes off 11.1 yards per pass attempt.
For the total, take the over in this one. Michigan put on a scoring clinic against Ohio State, and Purdue had its second-highest scoring total since Oct. 22.
Michigan is listed at -800 in our Vegas lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Wolverines, you have a chance to win $13. Purdue is +550, offering a chance to win $550 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Michigan a 88.89% chance to win, with Purdue at 15.38%.
