Purdue Boilermakers
The Purdue Boilermakers rebounded from their Week 1 loss to Penn State, subsequently trouncing Indiana State, 56-0. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell led the way.
He has thrown for 576 yards in two games, while the Boilermaker defense has allowed fewer than 300 yards per game so far.
ISU didn’t offer resistance in what was a cupcake game, but the fact Purdue pitched a shutout should give this defense confidence and belief in its methods.
The loss to Penn State was more about an offensive failure, however, The defense had a late pick-six which should have been sufficient to win, but the offense was unable to protect the lead.
Purdue now encounters another game in which it figures to be tested, and unlike the Penn State game, this one needs to be passed if the Boilermakers are going to be successful this season.
Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange, which looked quite impotent the past few seasons, might be competent. This game against Purdue is more indicative of where the 2022 Orange are standing.
So last week, Syracuse blasted Connecticut, 48-14. Running back Sean Tucker is the featured part of this offense. He’s been given a heavy workload so far this season, as in 48 carries for 212 yards in two games.
Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader accounted for five touchdowns against the Huskies (three through the air, two on the ground).
Obviously, a point of caution here is that UConn is a bad team. Purdue’s a much better test here. Syracuse might be for real because of its defense, having surrendered a total of 21 points through two games. It held Louisville-which was expected to have a good offense this season-to just seven points in the opener.
If the Syracuse defense clamps down on Purdue, that will get everyone’s attention, especially those in the sportsbook.

Purdue tight end Garrett Miller, defensive tackle Damarjhe Lewis and cornerback Tee Denson are all out for this game.
Syracuse backup quarterback Justin Lamson is out, as are defensive back Dom Foster, fullback Chris Elmore and linebacker Stefon Thompson.
Purdue vs Syracuse Head-to-Head
The teams have met only once, in 2004. Purdue whitewashed SU, 51-0.
