Cardinals Hope To Get Back on Track Against Bulls
A road win at UCF seemed to bode well for Louisville’s season. However, a home loss to Florida State tempered expectations as the Black and Red now play host to South Florida.
The South Florida Bulls come to Cardinal Stadium off arguably the best showing in third-year coach Jeff Scott’s tenure, a 31-28 defeat in the Swamp against Florida. Will the Bulls’ momentum continue and push them to the winning side of things, or will class rise and Louisville will prevail?
Get Lucky in Kentucky
There’s been nothing remarkable in coach Jeff Scott’s three years at the helm of USF in Tampa. The record is putrid (4-20), and three of those four victories have come against FCS opposition (Citadel, Florida A&M, and Howard). However, last week’s 31-28 loss as 22.5 point underdogs for those taking part in online gambling is encouraging.
In the loss to the Gators, USF held a decided edge in time of possession and even gained more yards (402 to 329) than Florida. The Bulls dominated the stat sheet but not the scoreboard as they fell to 1-2.
Scott is 5-6-1 ATS as a road underdog, one of many college football odds that bettors rely on when making college football picks. The road has been anything but kind of Scott during his tenure in Tampa, as the Bulls are winless in 12 road games under his watch.
Cards Look To Avenge Last Week’s Heartbreaker
Louisville comes into the game 1-2 and has been anything but predictable for those betting online, losing as a road favorite in Week 1 before winning as a pretty significant road underdog in Week 2. Under coach Scott Satterfield, Louisville is just 19-23, although they have been to a pair of bowls in the past three seasons.
Last week’s effort against Florida State was the epitome of a back-and-forth affair as the lead changed hands three times. Senior quarterback Malik Cunningham continues to be one of college football’s most electric performers as he has thrown for 590 yards and ran for 282 and is poised to surpass one of the school’s all-time greats, Lamar Jackson, in total yards.
Satterfield is 8-5 ATS as a home favorite at Louisville and 19-20-1 ATS in his career. The Cards are 12-8 SU at home in the past three seasons.
South Florida vs Louisville Head-to-Head
Louisville leads the series of old Big East foes 6-5 and has won three straight. The home team has won 8 of the 11 matchups in the series and is 9-2 ATS in those games.

South Florida vs Louisville Prediction
This is a big spot for Louisville and its coach Scott Satterfield. This is Year four for him in Derby City, and expectations around the program were high going into the season. The team obviously bounced back from a disappointing loss at Syracuse with a statement at UCF but was unable to follow it against Florida State.
Now 1-2, the season is at a crossroads, and Satterfield’s future hangs in the balance. Expect the Cardinals to start fast and get the home crowd into it.
USF has not won a road game since midway in the 2019 season. While last week’s showing in the swamp, both on the field and on the stat sheet, was impressive, Louisville will just prove to be too much for the Bulls. Louisville’s strength (rushing the ball) is USF’s weakness, as they rank 238th nationally among FBS and FCS teams in yards against.
We expect Louisville to start fast and finish strong and cover the 14 points.
