Take Points at Home with Miami vs Texas A&M

Two teams got their 2023 season out to better start after a pedestrian 2022 season in which they finished 5-7 overall. Texas A&M and Miami each had strong performances as they eased into the season against New Mexico and Miami (Ohio), respectively, but they’ll get a tougher test as they meet in a rematch from last season.

The Aggies downed the Hurricanes 17-9 in 2022, and according to college football odds, they’re favored in the rematch as well.

Weigman Impresses in A&M Debut

In a new offensive system and with many of the same players back, quarterback Connor Weigman looked good after being named the Texas A&M Aggies starter.

After he finished last season with eight total touchdowns in four games, Weigman went 18-for-23 for 236 yards and five touchdowns in the 52-10 drubbing of New Mexico. Receivers Evan Stewart and Noah Thomas combined for 189 receiving yards and all five touchdowns.

Despite the big day, it came against a New Mexico team that only returned two starters on defense and finished in the middle of the Mountain West last season, allowing 360.8 total yards and 26.0 points a game.

Weigman and the Aggies had a tune-up game against the Lobos to flesh out any problems in the new system, but the real test will come against a tougher Miami defense this weekend.

Miami Needs Big Day from Defense

The Miami Hurricanes also had a strong day offensively behind a strong running game against the inferior Mid-American Conference opponent last week, but the defense was equally as impressive.

Miami held veteran quarterback Brett Gabbert to 12 of 21 for 127 yards, keeping the RedHawks to 215 yards total in the win to hold them to three points.

The Hurricanes also allowed the RedHawks just nine first downs, limiting them to 2-of-12 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth-down attempts as well while not giving up any points in the second half.

Texas A&M will up the difficulty factor for Miami, so the Hurricanes will need another big day on defense to keep up with a high-flying Aggies offense.

Texas A&M vs Miami Best Bet

College football odds have the Aggies favored after their big game against New Mexico last week, but the Hurricanes shouldn’t be counted out to keep things close and even possibly win it at home.

Miami’s defense will make things a lot more difficult for Weigman than the Lobos did. though Texas A&M had a strong day on defense as well, but it may have a tougher time stopping the ground game of the ‘Canes, who rushed for 250 yards and 6.9 yards per carry in Week 1.

Both of these teams will have a tougher time after fairly easy wins in Week 1, but with a stronger Miami defense and the Hurricanes having home-field advantage, expect them to keep it close and cover the four-point spread from the sportsbook.
