Take Points With Underdog Wyoming vs Texas

Fresh off an upset victory over Alabama, Texas heads into Week 3 as a massive 29-point favorite over Wyoming in the latest college football spreads on BetUS. The total is set at 49 in the clash of Cowboys and Longhorns.

Texas would be wise not to overlook a Wyoming team that has already pulled off an upset over one Texas team by topping Texas Tech as 14-point underdogs in Week 1. It is fair to wonder in NCAAF score predictions how the toll of playing a road game at Alabama will impact Texas against Wyoming. The good news for the Longhorns is Texas cruised to a 34-24 victory over ’Bama in a game that did not come down to the wire.

Why Back Texas to Cover vs Wyoming?

Watching star quarterback Quinn Ewers pick apart the Crimson Tide’s defense, it is not hard to back Texas against a likely overmatched Wyoming team.

We already knew that the Longhorns had one of the top receiving groups in the country, but tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders proved against Bama that opposing defenses will also have to account for him.

This adds to an already potent group of receiving weapons including Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington. Texas backers likely envision a Longhorns offense posting its third-straight 30-point game while Wyoming struggles to put up points against an imposing defense.

Why Back Wyoming to Cover Massive Spread?

We have already seen Wyoming pull off a sizable upset, as the Cowboys did against another Big 12 opponent in Texas Tech. The challenge for Wyoming is the team will not have the benefit of playing at altitude in Laramie as the team heads to Austin to take on the Longhorns.

The strength of Wyoming is the team’s defense, but the Cowboys face their biggest challenge yet against the high-octane Texas offense. There is reason to think Wyoming can keep this closer than the four-touchdown spread indicates.
This matchup is sandwiched between an emotional victory over Alabama and the beginning of Big 12 conference play as Texas takes on Baylor on Sept. 23. Wyoming quarterback Andrew Peasley is not going to throw for 5,000 yards, but the quarterback is a capable dual-threat quarterback.
Wyoming’s win over Texas Tech will give the Cowboys confidence to present a challenge in Austin.

Wyoming vs Texas Best Bet

Overall, I like Texas to top Wyoming but look for the Cowboys to cover the spread. This is a sizable line that Wyoming’s defense can allow the team to stay with the Longhorns. The main question is whether the Cowboys can score against Texas.

Even if Wyoming struggles to score points, the defense should be able to get enough stops to cover the more than four-touchdown spread. My score prediction for the game is Texas 27, Wyoming 10. I would stay away from the total given the explosiveness of Texas’ offense combined with the question marks regarding Wyoming’s unit.

I feel much more confident in taking Wyoming to cover the spread as one of my top college football bets for Week 3. Look for this one to be closer than the experts think as Texas guards against a potential letdown following their win over ’Bama.
