Take Tennessee ATS Against Texas A&M in Big SEC Matchup

College Football games on Week 7 will feature a marquee matchup between two SEC powerhouses. Texas A&M (4-2, 2-1) will travel, as the underdog, to face No.19 Tennessee (4-1,1-1), a big game for both schools within the conference.

Texas A&M faced Alabama last week and put up a good fight, keeping the game close, before losing 26-20. Tennessee had last week off but beat South Carolina in Week 5, 41-20, for its first SEC win.

Texas A&M’s Secondary Will Be Tested Again

Last week’s loss to Alabama was complicated for Texas A&M. The Aggies kept the game close enough to pull off the upset but eventually lost and did not cover the short College Football spread.

The offense found a rhythm in the first half, and the Aggies had a 17-10 lead heading into halftime. Max Johnson has played well since taking over the starting quarterback job after Connor Weigman was ruled out for the season. Johnson had 239 yards on 14 completions off 25 attempts, with a touchdown and an interception.

That interception was a significant momentum shift within the game, happening on Texas A&M’s first drive of the second half. After that, Texas A&M’s offense struggled, having a safety, then a field goal block, and scoring only three points in the last two quarters.

However, the biggest concern from last week’s loss was Texas A&M’s defense, primarily the secondary. The Aggies front seven had a dominant game, allowing 23 yards on 26 attempts, with six sacks and eight tackles for loss, but the secondary got diced up. They gave up 321 passing yards to a quarterback that has struggled. Alabama had 9.7 yards per pass attempt, which the Volunteers will undoubtedly try to take advantage of.

Tennessee Deep Passing Game Set Up for Success

Given how poorly Texas A&M’s secondary performed last week, it seems likely that Tennessee will go into this game looking to expose that. That might be why the Volunteers are favored in our College Football lines this week.

While quarterback Joe Milton III has not had a big game this season, yet to throw for over 300 yards, he has not been scared to throw the ball downfield. He averages 11.5 yards per completion, despite Tennessee being second to last in yards per pass, 7.1. With Alabama’s success last week, Milton should be able to replicate some of that.

However, the one concern is will the Volunteers be able to get their running game going against Texas A&M. Tennessee has used a three-man backfield between Jaylen Wright, Jabari Small, and DylanSampson, all of them having success, helping the Volunteers to lead the SEC in rushing yards per game (231.2) and yards per carry (6.2). That will indeed be tested by the SEC’s best run-stopping defense in the Aggies, allowing 84 yards per game, 2.6 per carry. The battle in the trenches will surely have a role to play in college football picks this week.

Wright has been the lead back, leading the team in carries, yards, and yards per carry. He ran for 123 yards and scored in the last game against South Carolina. However, Sampson has mainly been used in the red zone, with six touchdowns, while Wright and Small only combine for three.

Texas A&M vs Tennessee Betting Lines

Texas A&M vs Tennessee Best Bet

This game will feature the best run defense and best running offense in the SEC, which will be the focal point. However, outside of that, the most crucial thing for College Football picks is determining which team can succeed outside the trenches.

There should be a lot more faith in Tennessee being at home and having the ability to expose Texas A&M’s weak secondary. That should give the Volunteers enough edge to win the game, covering the spread.

College Football Best Bet: Tennessee -3½ (-110)
