Spotlight on No. 5 Vols
Columbia will be on the center stage as the South Carolina Gamecocks play host to the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers in a prime-time SEC clash. Tennessee (9-1, 5-1 SEC) continues to fight for its playoff chances while South Carolina (6-4, 3-4) could grab a signature win in a disappointing season.
The Volunteers have rolled over the last six games, going 5-1 against the spread (ATS). The Gamecocks come off an embarrassing 38-6 loss to Florida and are 1-2 ATS in the last three.

Volunteers Competing for Hardware
Tennessee has everything to play for, even after the 27-13 loss to No. 1 Georgia two weeks ago. The Volunteers must impress in the final two weeks against South Carolina and Vanderbilt. If they win in convincing fashion, the Volunteers should be able to sneak into the College Football Playoff. Tennessee’s +1400 odds to win the national title could drop in the coming weeks.
In addition, quarterback Hendon Hooker is still alive for the Heisman Trophy as the second choice with +325 odds. Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who has 1,116 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, is also battling for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top wideout.

Clearly, Tennessee should be quite motivated heading into Saturday night. When the Volunteers have been heavy favorites, they have taken care of business, going 4-0 ATS when favored by three or more scores.
Against the Gamecocks, Tennessee’s run game is poised for a huge day. With the big-play passing offense, the Volunteers’ rushing attack often goes overlooked, but it averages 194.9 rushing yards (26th). Meanwhile, South Carolina ranks 115th in allowed rushing yards per game. Props for Tennessee’s run game will be a wise bet.
Deflating Season for South Carolina
South Carolina was hoping to take a leap in coach Shane Beamer’s second season. After landing quarterback Spencer Rattler in the transfer portal, there was some hype around the Gamecocks entering the season. It has not gone as planned.
USC has struggled to compete in the SEC with several blowout losses. None were more deflating than last week’s 38-6 loss to Florida. The Gamecocks allowed an alarming 374 rushing yards on 6.9 yards per carry. South Carolina’s front seven on defense has been a huge issue, and it’s erasing talent in the secondary, like cornerback Cam Smith.
Furthermore, quarterback Rattler has not played well. Turnover woes have carried over to this season, and at times, Rattler has simply been inaccurate.
The last time South Carolina was a big underdog at home, it was demolished by Georgia, 48-7. Keep an eye on starting cornerback Smith. He could be a good choice for NFL Draft prop bets, as Smith could be a first-round selection.
