K-State Eyeing Conference Title

Kansas State was a team that many had at the top of their list of Big 12 teams in 2022. After it dissected Oklahoma State, the chances at a conference title look much better. Wildcats quarterback Will Howard went 21-for-37 with 296 yards and four passing touchdowns in the shutout win. Deuce Vaughn, meanwhile, led the charge on the ground with 158 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Kicker Ty Zentner did his part with a 2-for-2 field goal day, and six made extra points.

Despite the offensive explosion, the Wildcats’ defense usually does the heavy lifting. We guess the zero points scored by a top-10 team gave that away, though. They average less than 20 points per game and average just 5 yards per play on defense.

The offense ranks in the top 50 but kicked things into a higher gear on Saturday. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them come out and put up another considerable number, with an average of 30.6 points per game on offense.

Texas Questionable Favorites

While this “strategy” rarely works in sports betting, it’s impossible to ignore that Texas lost to Oklahoma State two weeks ago 41-34. A Cowboys team that K-State shut out last week. At the time, many were impressed that Texas could hang with the No. 11 team in the nation. However, Oklahoma State has fallen nine spots in the rankings and looks far less threatening than it did a few weeks back. Maybe Texas held its own against a team that was ranked much higher than it should be.

Texas is far from a bad team, mind you, and ranks 14th in points per game (36.4) and 22nd in points allowed per game (21.1). But Texas does a lot of little things wrong and shoots itself in the foot as a result.

Their field goal kicking, for example, ranks 78th in the nation with a conversion rate of 72.22%. The defense doesn’t put much pressure on opposing quarterbacks either, with an 88th-ranked sack rate and 96th-ranked interception rate. We saw what Howard could do when given time to operate and think he could tear up this secondary that allows nearly 250 yards passing per game.

Texas vs Kansas State Prediction

The fact that Texas is favored in this game on the road is perplexing. The Longhorns are not a bad team and have some decent wins, but K-State has the advantage in several key areas. After what they did to the Cowboys last weekend, we aren’t betting against the Wildcats against a team that Ok-State recently beat.
