The scramble to make the College Football Playoff intensifies every week, especially for teams that have already suffered a loss or two. There is more margin for error with 12 teams making the CFP, but that doesn’t mean any team wants to take a chance of suffering a setback that costs them a chance at the national title.

We looked at the schedule for Week 9 of the college football season and picked a few games that you should make NCAA football bets on against the spread (ATS).

3 College Football ATS Picks to Bet in Week 9

1. Notre Dame Faces Navy In Key Contest

A battle between two ranked teams finds the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on the Navy Midshipmen at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. It’s the No. 12 Irish who have the one loss between these teams, falling at home to Northern Illinois in Week 2 of the season.

Navy is undefeated and ranked No. 24 in the country thanks to a dominating offense run by quarterback Blake Horvath. The junior has thrown for 888 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for 621 yards and another 10 scores.

The Midshipmen are fourth in the country in rushing yards per game with 274.8 and in points per game with 44.8. Granted, they haven’t played a team the caliber of Notre Dame, but this isn’t anything new to Navy, which has faced the Irish annually every season since 1927 outside of the shortened 2020 campaign.

The Irish have their own running quarterback in Riley Leonard, who has rushed for 456 yards and 10 touchdowns, scoring at least once on the ground in the last six contests. Leonard can pass the ball as well, throwing for 1,182 yards and six touchdowns.

This should be a fun game to watch, with both teams able to move the ball well. We’re not predicting an outright Navy win, but the Midshipmen will keep it closer than the 13-point spread.

When you’re making your college football picks for this weekend, take Navy and the points for a win.

2. Missouri Tries to Shock Alabama

It was less than a month ago when the Alabama Crimson Tide became the team to beat in college football by knocking off then-No. 1 Georgia. Unfortunately for Alabama, the rest of the college football world took that task to heart, with the Crimson Tide suffering two losses in their last three games. Only a two-point win over South Carolina kept them from three straight setbacks.

Coach Kalen DeBoer’s squad has road losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee on its resume now and must avoid any other missteps if it wants to make the College Football Playoff.

“You gotta look inward first and make sure that everything you’re doing is right,” DeBoer said after Saturday’s loss at Tennessee. “Anyone you sense has any type of questioning, you got to make sure you bring them with you.”

The No. 15 Crimson Tide don’t get any breaks as this week brings No. 21 Missouri to Tuscaloosa for an SEC showdown between ranked teams. The Tigers (6-1) have won two straight, including an exciting come-from-behind victory over Auburn last weekend.

Quarterback Brady Cook had to leave that game with an ankle injury in the first quarter but returned to the game in the third after going to the hospital for tests on the ankle. Cook was hobbled but was able to help the Tigers rally for the win. Monitor college football news because his status for this week is up in the air according to Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz.

While we expect the Crimson Tide to rebound with a win in this one, we also expect the Tigers to keep things somewhat close, covering the 13½-point spread. Put a bet online on Missouri getting the points on the road against Alabama.

3. Oklahoma State Gets Big 12 Breakthrough vs Baylor

The college football predictions in the preseason had the Oklahoma State Cowboys contending for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game for the second straight season, but those predictions have long since been forgotten. Heading into the final weekend of October, the Cowboys have yet to record a conference victory.

Coach Mike Gundy has had quarterback troubles, and now Oklahoma State is going back to quarterback Alan Bowman after starter Garret Rangel suffered an upper-body injury in last week’s loss to BYU. Bowman has experience, though, helping the Cowboys to the Big 12 Championship Game a season ago, and he nearly led Oklahoma State to the upset of the undefeated Cougars last week, falling by just four thanks to a last-minute touchdown.

But Bowman has had some accuracy problems this season, throwing nine interceptions compared to 13 touchdowns. The seventh-year senior must avoid mistakes if the Cowboys are going to be competitive going forward.

Baylor (3-4, 1-3) has struggled this season as well, snapping a three-game losing skid with a win at Texas Tech last weekend. The Bears have had their problems defensively, giving up 37.5 points per game in Big 12 play.

This game should be another high-scoring affair, and we like the Cowboys to stay within a touchdown if not win outright on the road. Include Oklahoma State getting the points on the college football lines among your wagers for this weekend.

Bet on Oklahoma State +6½ vs Baylor
