Tulane vs Army Picks: 2 Top ATS Bets for AAC Bowl Game

1. Tulane ATS -6

We typically don’t like following the trend, especially when it’s shortening the NCAAF lines. But Tulane is a bad matchup for Army. The Green Wave are proficient at stopping the run, which is what Army is all about. Tulane will stuff Army’s rushing and make a statement as it leads Army from the get-go.

Led by heart and soul Tyler Grubbs, the Green Wave can neutralize Army’s offense. The Black Knights lead the nation with a whopping 322.1 rushing yards per contest. As a result, they also lead in time of possession (35:21). But a lot of this comes from facing some bottom-feeding competition.

Army’s strength of schedule is ranked 124th out of 134. They only played two opponents with winning records with one being a blowout loss to Notre Dame. The Irish held Army to 207 rushing yards at 3.6 yards per carry. This is a telling game as the Green Wave can replicate Notre Dame’s strategy.

The Green Wave hold opponents to only 124.1 rushing yards. On top of that, they have one of the best red-zone defenses averaging just 2.4 field goals/touchdowns per contest. Tulane has also faced tougher matchups, which is why it is rightly favored. Had it not been for a hiccup against Memphis, we may see Tulane laying a touchdown here.

As such, we’ll Tulane is our NCAAF pick against the spread (ATS) even if it is moving toward that number. The Green Wave will stuff Army’s rushing attack and cover.

2. 1st Half Tulane ATS -3

Tulane is not only the better team but should also start faster. The Green Wave averaged 19.5 points in the first half, which is ranked 13th in the nation. They also average a +10.1 point differential in this first half, which is why we’re again going to lay the points on the favorite. But this time, the NCAAF spread is only a field goal, which makes this a better bet.

Unlike Army, Tulane also has a passing game led by Darian Mensah. The quarterback is garnering NCAAF news and rumors as an NCAA Transfer Portal contender. He’s put up prolific stats and has only played one subpar contest, which is the loss to Oklahoma. In every other contest, he’s all but lit up the competition.

We don’t see Army doing much to slow Mensah down. Notre Dame had few issues passing the ball as did East Carolina. Mensah is just as good if not better than the quarterbacks Army faced here. He’s due for another showcase here as he gets off to a fast start and leads Tulane to an emphatic win. Bet the Green Wave to cover three points in the first half.

Bet This Pick: 1st Half – Tulane Green Wave -3 (-115)
