Two Top Player Props for Ga. State vs Ga. Southern

Both Teams Have One Sun Belt Loss

The Thursday night matchup between Georgia State and Georgia Southern feels like an elimination game in the Sun Belt East race even if division-leading James Madison is not eligible to play in the conference title game. When making NCAA football picks today, bear in mind that the host Eagles are slight favorites.

Georgia State has won three straight games against Georgia Southern, including a 21-14 win in the Panthers’ last trip to Statesboro.

The College football predictions list Georgia Southern as a 1½-point favorite for this game.

Georgia Southern has covered in five of its six games as a home favorite since the start of the 2022 season. Georgia State is 6-2 against the spread as a road underdog during that stretch.

Running back KZ Adams, tight end Kris Byrd and receiver Ja’Cyais Credle (11 catches) are questionable for Georgia State.

Georgia State is the hardest Sun Belt team to score against in the red zone. The Panthers have allowed 17 scores in 26 visits to the red zone by the opponents with just 11 of those being touchdowns. Georgia Southern has made the most trips to the red zone among Sun Belt teams.

According to the NCAA football betting lines, Georgia Southern (+1400) was seventh and Georgia State (+2200) was eighth in the odds of winning the Sun Belt title coming into the season. They are now tied for third at +500 behind only Troy and South Alabama in the odds to win the Sun Belt.

Carroll Ready to Hit the Ground Running

Marcus Carroll had just two rushing attempts in last year’s win over Georgia Southern. With seven 100-yard rushing games over the last 11 contests, look for the conference’s second-leading rusher to be more involved in this year’s matchup.

The Panthers are 6-1 dating back to last season when Carroll topped 100 rushing yards. He leads the conference with 27 runs of at least 10 yards. He is going up against a Georgia Southern defense that has allowed just two running plays of 30 yards or more. Carroll is also one of three Sun Belt players with at least 10 touchdown runs this season so that is another option for the college football player props.

College Football Pick: Georgia State’s Marcus Carroll to have at least 121 rushing yards +108

Brin, Eagles Looking to Soar

Georgia Southern finished either first or second in the Sun Belt in rushing offense in the first seven years that the Eagles played in the conference.

It is a much different deal now.

The Eagles have attempted the most passes among the 133 Football Bowl Subdivision teams.

Former Tulsa quarterback Davis Brin has completed 67% of his passes for 2,122 yards and 14 touchdowns.

One concern is Brin’s 11 interceptions – only Colorado State, Utah State and Tulsa have thrown more interceptions among Football Bowl Subdivision teams than the 12 by Georgia Southern.

College Football Pick: Georgia Southern’s Davis Brin to have at least three touchdown passes +136

Georgia State Panthers vs Georgia Southern Eagles Betting Odds

Eagles, Panthers to Get Some Early Kicks

Georgia Southern’s Michael Lantz is tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead with 16 field goal attempts while Liam Rickman of Georgia State is one of two Sun Belt kickers who is perfect on field-goal attempts this season.

Even though just once this season were the first points in the games for Georgia State and Georgia Southern as a result of a field goal, we are calling for that to change.

College Football Pick: The first points in the Georgia State-Georgia Southern game to come on a touchdown – NO +247
