A Blowout is Expected
It’s not expected to be a close game between the Utah State Aggies and the BYU Cougars Thursday night. NCAA football odds have BYU at -24½ to win consecutive games, while the Aggies haven’t impressed.
The Mountain West showdown should be a chance for the Cougars to strut their stuff as a nationally-ranked outfit.

Aggies’ Low Confidence
The Aggies made somewhat of an impression by beating lowly UConn in the opening week of the season, but it’s been downhill since.
They’ve dropped three games in a row, a poor 35-7 loss to Weber State and a 34-24 loss to UNLV last week.
There isn’t much going right with the Utah State Aggies, scoring 15.5 points per game and surrendering 36. Thus, a much-improved effort is needed to cover the betting online spread against BYU.
The problem starts at the quarterback position with Logan Bonner, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Confidence on the offensive side of the ball is important because the defense hasn’t arrived.
Allowing 206.3 yards rushing isn’t going to get it done against BYU and the Cougars even have a quarterback who’s legit, so they can punish Utah State in various ways.
Staying within 24½ points is what bettors are worried about. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it will be a stretch in front of a roaring crowd at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
BYU Whips Wyoming
Just when it looked as if BYU was gaining some momentum, it suffered an untimely 41-20 defeat to Oregon. However, the BYU Cougars rebounded last week.
The 38-24 win over Wyoming was still not as impressive as their wins over USF and Baylor. The 26-20 double-overtime win against Baylor was solid, and anything close to that sees them dominate the Aggies.
We’ve been impressed with quarterback Jaren Hall, who has thrown for 1,164 yards (nine touchdowns). He has been their primary weapon on offense. Utah State is downright bad at defending the pass, so he could have a field day in this game.
“The plan was to see who could get the hot hand (at running back),” coach Kilani Sitake said. “We will do it by committee right now and see who will get us the best chance to get this run game going. We needed something. The last two weeks weren’t good, and you can only blame the O-line for so long.”
This is an ideal chance for the Cougars to improve in that area.

BYU has a lifetime 50-37-3 advantage over Utah State, including a 28-18-1 home record.
BYU took the last meeting, 34-20, so the clear advantage is with the home team and that’s reflected in betting online markets.
