Utes Still Have Chance
The Utah Utes (8-3, 6-2 in Pac-12) did not exactly help their cause to make the Pac-12 title game after losing, 20-17, to Oregon last week. Utah still has a slight chance of playing in that game, starting with a win over hapless Colorado (1-10, 1-7), then needing some help.
No. 14 Utah can make the title game if (when) it excises CU, coupled with Oregon St. beating Oregon, Washington defeating Washington St., and UCLA taking care of Cal. All of those outcomes may happen, with OSU beating the Ducks the biggest question mark.
Utah has advantages all the way down in the fourth set of tiebreakers (combined win percentage in conference games of conference opponents), sending it to the title game a second consecutive season.
Bouder Beatdown This Season
Colorado didn’t do a lot to bolster its recruiting this season, firing Karl Dorrell after a winless start, handing the keys over to interim coach Mike Sanford, Jr. CU did give the hometown fans one bright spot in a 20-13 overtime win against Cal in Week 7. That ends the list.
The Buffaloes thought maybe they could at least get some quarterback development this season. True freshman Owen McCown (son of former NFL quarterback Josh McCown) offered some promise in Week 4 against UCLA (258 yards, one touchdown), but was out with injury two weeks later and hasn’t returned.
J.T. Shrout hasn’t exceeded 125 passing yards in the last two games, completing just 44% of his passes on the season.
CU did run through a pretty tough gauntlet of Pac-12 elite in recent weeks, having lost to Oregon (49-10), USC (55-17) and Washington (54-7) by a combined 121 points. Colorado was at least a 30-point underdog in each of those contests, then failed to cover in any.
Utah has to be considered in the class of the conference, along with the Ducks, Trojans and Huskies. The Utes rank third in the Pac-12 in rushing, but may save some of their players, including Tavion Thomas, in case they advance to the title game.

Utah vs Colorado Head-to-Head
Utah has won five straight in this NCAAF series, and it’s somewhat surprising that number isn’t higher. Utah was a 28-13 winner last season, but failed to cover the 24-point spread

There’s not even a Moneyline offered in this lopsided affair, the visiting Utes listed as a 30-point favorite
As was mentioned, Oregon, USC, and Washington all plowed through the Buffaloes in recent weeks. Utah will build up a decent lead, taking its foot off the gas pedal in case there’s a conference title game appearance next week.
