1. Miners ATS Pick

The UTEP Miners aren’t a powerhouse in college football, but they have been playing well enough to give Tennessee something to worry about.

We don’t see them coming close to winning the game outright, but getting +41½ is a fair start and they should fancy their chances of covering the NCAAF spread.

They scored a 45-35 double-overtime win over Kennesaw State last week, which followed close losses to Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee. Those aren’t powerhouse teams, especially compared to what Tennessee has been facing, but it’s all relative.

Playing well gives the Miners confidence, and if they limit turnovers, we think they’re good enough to lose 40-10. Even losing 51-10 is enough to cover the spread, so they have points up their sleeves.

Stopping Volunteers running back Dylan Sampson is the key to victory. Sampson has an incredible 21 touchdowns, so their rushing defense needs to stand up to cover the spread.

2. Letdown Performance for Tennessee?

We would typically back the better team in this matchup, but following a 31-17 loss to Georgia, we expect Tennessee to struggle to regain their best form.

The Volunteers looked good prior to the loss, scoring wins over Florida, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Those wins were good, but they didn’t come by big margins. Returning home is a positive for the Volunteers, who had to play on the road against Georgia. They play their best football at Neyland Stadium, which is why most of the money has come for them to win and cover the spread.

Coach Josh Heupel’s team is in danger of missing the College Football Playoff after dropping to No. 11 in the latest rankings.
