Commodores, Tigers Seek First Conference Win
The Missouri Tigers hope to finally break through and earn their first SEC victory of the season when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. Missouri has lost three straight, all by seven points or less, and is tied with the Commodores for last in the SEC East Division.
Vanderbilt has also dropped three in a row, all to teams ranked in the nation’s top 10. Both teams are hungry for a victory, so this should be a tight game. For help with your betting online, read our in-depth preview of this conference matchup.

Vanderbilt: Defense has No Answers Lately
It certainly doesn’t help that the competition over the last three games for the Vanderbilt Commodores has been Georgia, Ole Miss and Alabama, but the team has allowed 54.0 points over its current losing streak. For the season, Vanderbilt is allowing 39.4 points and 493.7 yards per game.
One way for Vanderbilt to help its defense is to have the offense be successful with long, time-consuming drives. The Commodores are averaging 150.0 yards on the ground, compared to just 197 yards through the passing game.
Senior running back Ray Davis has 100-yard games in two of his last four games, but he managed just 29 yards on 12 carries against the vaunted Georgia defense last weekend. Davis has a team-high 536 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 2022.
Freshman quarterback AJ Swann has had his moments this season and he could find the passing lanes a little easier against Missouri. Swann has thrown for 953 yards and eight touchdowns while avoiding an interception through six games.
Missouri Wants More Than a Moral Victory
The Missouri Tigers can be proud of their effort over the last three games, dropping three straight one-score games, including a 26-22 setback against No. 1 Georgia. But the moral victories will only go so far for a team, and the Tigers are ready to put a number other than 0 in the win column for their conference record.
“It’s not a lack of effort. It’s not a lack of fight,” Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said after an Oct. 8 loss to Florida. “Just got to find a way. … There’s some things we’re getting better at, but we’re not getting the results.”
The Tigers have had a bye week to try to get ready for this one as they attempt to break through with that elusive victory. It’s avoiding the mistakes that have cost the team in their losses that must happen.
Quarterback Brady Cook was 22 of 30 for 220 yards in the loss to the Gators, but he threw two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown. The sophomore has thrown for 1,217 yards and five scores, but he also has six interceptions thrown.

Vanderbilt vs Missouri Head-To-Head
The Missouri Tigers have a two-game winning streak against the Vanderbilt Commodores heading into Saturday’s game, having won on the road a season ago. Missouri has the lead in the all-time series, 9-4-1.
The Commodores have won on the road against the Tigers just twice over the years, with the last such victory coming in 2006. The college football lines for Saturday’s matchup aren’t giving Vanderbilt much of a chance to change that number, with the Tigers favored by double digits.
