The seventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes and No. 15 Louisville Cardinals will both look to remain unbeaten in their respective Week 5 matchups. Both ACC title contenders look like great teams to back against their Week 5 college football betting odds for very different reasons.
Miami is at home on Friday night against unranked Virginia Tech while Louisville will hit the road to take on No. 16 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. Now, let’s find out why both teams look like value-packed picks this coming weekend.
Best 2 Best Bets in ACC for Week 5
1. Bet on No. 7 Miami (-17.5) vs Virginia Tech
Miami (4-0) has been lighting up the scoreboard like a pinball machine this season thanks to the addition of Heisman Trophy contender Cam Ward. The Washington State transfer made college football news by becoming the first Hurricanes quarterback in the last 25 years to throw for at least 300 yards in Miami’s first four games.
Ward burned South Florida for 404 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s 50-15 blowout win to become just the 13th quarterback in D-I college football history to top 15,000 career passing yards. The Hurricanes covered as a 16.5-point favorite in online betting to improve to 3-1 ATS on the season. Miami has scored 209 points through four weeks and shows no signs of slowing down coming into this affair.
“I know Cam’s going to be upset with himself, some of the throws he missed by a hair, and that’s the kind of guy he is,” coach Mario Cristobal said after Miami’s latest win.
Virginia Tech was on the wrong end of a crushing 26-23 home loss against Rutgers on Saturday that dropped the Hokies to 2-2. Virginia Tech committed three turnovers in the loss and failed to cover the spread as a 3-point favorite to fall to 1-3 ATS.
The Hurricanes have won three straight in this rivalry and are 8-4 ATS in their last 12 meetings against Virginia Tech. While I don’t think the Hokies are going down without a fight in this Week 5 matchup, I am going with the Canes and their explosive offense behind Ward to get the double-digit win and narrow ATS cover.
While Miami is soaring this season, in-state rival Florida is in the midst of a doom-and-gloom campaign!

2. Louisville (+6.5) to Cover vs Notre Dame
Louisville has won three straight, including its 31-19 smackdown of Georgia Tech on Saturday. Senior quarterback Tyler Shough passed for 269 yards and two touchdowns and senior wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks had four catches for 125 yards and one score. The Cardinals held the Yellow Jackets to five points in the second half to cover the NCAA football odds as an 8.5-point favorite to improve to 3-0 ATS over the last three games.
Notre Dame got by Miami-Ohio 28-3 on Saturday after a slow start and failed to cover the spread as a 27-point favorite. Senior quarterback Riley Leonard passed for 159 yards and one touchdown and added 143 rushing yards and two more scores in the win.
Still, to see the Irish struggle at any point against the likes of the RedHawks is a problem for me.
Outside of its commanding 66-7 beatdown of Purdue in Week 3, Notre Dame just doesn’t look very daunting this season on either side of the ball, and therein lies the problem.
I know the Fighting Irish have won nine of their last 11 at home, but Louisville is 5-0 ATS in its last five games against Independent teams. The Cardinals have also outscored the Irish
through four weeks and allowed fewer points defensively coming into this affair.
Plus, I just can’t get Notre Dame’s loss to Northern Illinois out of my head. I’m taking the Cardinals and the points to cover the college football spread in this Week 5 matchup.
Bet this Pick: Louisville +6.5 (-110)
