Playing at home can be a big boost for a college football team, and we’re banking on that home-field edge in picking our three against-the-spread (ATS) best bets this week. The home teams are all underdogs, but we like the familiarity of being at home to help all of them at least keep their games within the point spread.
Make sure you check the latest college football odds before making these picks, but we like all of these teams to keep things close if not pull out outright upsets.
3 College Football ATS Picks to Bet in Week 7
1. Arizona State Upsets Utah in the Desert
The high-powered offense of the Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) faces a big test against the visiting Utah Utes. The Utes (4-1, 1-1) are No. 16 in the country in the latest AP Top 25 poll despite senior quarterback Cam Rising playing less than two full games this season thanks to a very solid defense.
The Utes rank second in the Big 12 in scoring defense, allowing just 15 points per game, but they face an Arizona State attack that is putting up 33.2 points per game. How well Utah can slow down the Sun Devils’ offense will be a major key in this contest.
Rising, who threw for 346 yards and seven touchdowns at the time of a hand injury in the second game of the season, is a possibility to play, but he has been for the last three games for the Utes and has yet to return to the field. In his place, freshman Isaac Wilson has struggled, throwing seven interceptions compared to six touchdowns.
Wilson threw for 280 yards and a touchdown in the Utes’ last outing, but he was also picked off twice and sacked three times in a 23-10 loss to Arizona.
Arizona State is coming off a comeback win over Kansas that saw quarterback Sam Leavitt throw for four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 16 seconds to play. The Sun Devils also have a strong running game behind senior Cam Skattebo, who had 182 yards and a touchdown against the Jayhawks.
We like the Sun Devils to outlast the Utes on Friday night in the Tempe, Ariz., heat that is expected to be 95 degrees at game time. Make Arizona State one of your college football bets for this week.
Bet on Arizona State +6 vs Utah
2. North Carolina Snaps Losing Skid With Win Over Georgia Tech
It seems like a lifetime ago when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made college football news with their upset of then-No. 10 Florida State in Ireland to kick off the 2024 campaign. Since then, the Seminoles have shown they should not have been ranked in the preseason while the Yellow Jackets have struggled a bit in conference play, coming into Saturday’s contest with a 2-2 ACC mark as part of their 4-2 overall record.
But they take on a team that’s really struggling to get a win in the North Carolina Tar Heels (3-3, 0-2 ACC), who have dropped three straight after getting off to a 3-0 start. UNC gets a chance at home to snap that streak, but it needs its defense to step up.
The Tar Heels’ offense is seventh in the ACC, scoring 32.7 points per game, but the team’s defense is 15th in the conference, allowing 28.7 points per contest. North Carolina has yet to score in the fourth quarter in conference play, getting outscored by Pittsburgh and Duke 24-0 in a pair of close games.
Quarterback Jacolby Criswell is progressing after starting the season as third on the depth chart for the Tar Heels. Criswell has thrown for 1,158 yards and seven touchdowns and is gaining confidence in his second stint with the Tar Heels.
“I’ve seen him, the more confident he’s gotten, the more comfortable he’s gotten with the whole full playbook,” UNC offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey said of Criswell, who transferred to Arkansas for a season before returning to the program he spent his first three collegiate seasons with. “And I think that’s something that he’s good (at doing). He’s a sneaky good athlete. He makes plays on the perimeter. He can throw on the move, and he did a nice job running.”
Georgia Tech has struggled in true road games this season, going 0-2 with losses to Syracuse and Louisville. We see those struggles continuing in this one, as the Tar Heels at least keep it close.

3. Colorado Makes Things Tough on Kansas State
A pair of former Big 12 rivals now square off again as conference foes when the Kansas State Wildcats visit the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night. The Buffaloes have been hot, winning three in a row, including a pair of conference victories.
Quarterback Shadeur Sanders is making his case to be among the Heisman Trophy betting favorites, including 290 yards and three touchdowns passing in a rout of UCF in Colorado’s last game on Sept. 28. Sanders has 1,630 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air this season.
Sanders has a battle for the Heisman, even with his teammate, Travis Hunter. The junior wide receiver/defensive back has been putting up some big numbers of his own, making 46 receptions for 561 yards and six touchdowns. Hunter has at least seven catches in every game this season.

Kansas State bounced back from its first loss of the season with a win over Oklahoma State in its last contest on Sept. 28. The Wildcats have had their troubles on the road this season, however, losing at BYU and only beating Tulane by seven points.
With the college football predictions giving Kansas State the edge with a 4-point line, Colorado is going to have more than a bit of an edge to it. We like that edge – and playing at home – to keep the Buffaloes close to the end, if not power them to a fourth straight win.
Bet on Colorado +4 vs Kansas State
