Weekly NCAAF Teaser: Aggies & Knights Make it a Dog Day Afternoon

After considering our football picks this week, we will go back to the winning formula that saw us cash last week in our Weekly NCAAF Best Bet Teaser when we used two live underdogs. Let’s do it all over again in our college football predictions!

1st Teaser Leg: New Mexico State (+4½ to +10½) vs Western Kentucky

We’ve got a live one here, as the folks that set the college football odds are giving us a gift with the road pup, New Mexico State. We should point out that the Aggies are 7-0 against the number over their last seven contests and have won their last five games outright.

What’s the key to the Aggies’ success, you might ask? Well, they have an excellent run-blocking unit and are led by one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the nation, junior Diego Pavia, who has scored five rushing touchdowns and has 659 rushing yards. Fellow junior Star Thomas is also an asset in the backfield as he has four rushing touchdowns and a 5.3 yards per carry average.

Overall, the Aggies own the 15th-ranked rushing attack, averaging over 204 yards per game, and will be able to keep this game moving slowly as the clock ticks away. We should also note that one of Western Kentucky’s major weaknesses is stopping the run. The Hilltoppers allow over 218 rushing yards per game, which places them 128th in the nation in that defensive category.

I think the Aggies will cover at +4½ and may even upset the Hilltoppers. But when we add that extra six points, I can’t help but include New Mexico State +10½ as part of my Best Bet Teaser this week.

2nd Teaser Leg: Oklahoma State vs UCF (+3 to +9)

If I were to offer my NCAAF score predictions in this Big 12 clash I would lean toward going low as this should be a battle of power running games. But, gun to my head, I’m siding with the UCF rushing attack.

The Cowboys won the last iteration of the Bedlam Series over conference foe, Oklahoma, and they did it as 6½-point home underdogs. In other words, it was a big deal and undeniably their best win of the season. So, how do you think Oklahoma State will enter this matchup?

Well, I would dare say flat as a board, which means this has the feel of a trap game to me. I doubt the Cowboys are huffing and puffing and ready to blow the Knights’ house down as they are likely still reveling in their victory over the Sooners.

But another reason I like UCF here, besides its home-field advantage, is that the Knights will feature their No. 4 rushing attack versus the Cowboys’ 103rd-ranked rushing defense. As long as the Knights can keep the ball out of the hands of Oklahoma State’s tailback, Ollie Gordon II, who has a dozen touchdowns, they will be just fine.

This will be a ground war and I’m down for the Knights to win it. The Vegas college football odds as of this writing show UCF as 3-point home dogs and when we add six points, we soar over three key numbers (4, 6, and 7) which makes the Knights a must-bet on Saturday.

How to understand college football moneylines?

Moneylines are simply betting on which team will win the game without the point spread. The bigger the favorite, the more money you must risk, and the bigger the underdog the more money you could win.
