Western Kentucky’s victory dates back to 2014 when the Hilltoppers beat the Roadrunners 45-7 at home. This season, the Hilltoppers succumbed 52-46 to UTSA on Oct. 9. The game was cornered with Western Kentucky at the sportsbook exchange but it failed to deliver — the Hilltoppers closed as the 3 ½-point home chalk while the over cracked the 71-point closing game total.

Western Kentucky wrapped up its season on a seven-game winning streak, underscoring its credentials as the team to beat in C-USA. They capped off their rich vein of form with a 53-21 win over Marshall. Ironically, their impressive run of form down the stretch started the week after they lost to UTSA at home.

The Hilltoppers closed as the narrow one-point road favorites over the Thundering Herd, but they crushed the point spread in a dominant 53-21 victory. The Hilltoppers improve to 9-3-0 ATS, which represents one of the best records in college football. This also includes a solid 16.3-point win margin on average and a +7.8 differential versus the spread on average.

Over the last seven games, the Hilltoppers have averaged 45.3 points and conceded merely 18.9 points per game.

Texas San Antonio saw its perfect run of 11 straight wins snapped in Week 13 following a 45-23 loss to North Texas.

In terms of betting online trends, it represented an upset that sent seismic shockwaves through college football betting circles. The Roadrunners closed as the 8½-point home chalk.

All in all, UTSA boasts an 8-4-0 record against the spread, which includes a 14.8 winning margin on average and a +3.8 differential versus the spread on average.

Betting on the Game

The market on this game has done a complete 180-degree turn. UTSA opened as nearly field-goal favorites, but following Week 13’s setback against North Texas, the line began moving against the Roadrunners. So much so, that the Roadrunners are now the three-point underdogs for their C-USA title showdown with Western Kentucky.

Whichever way one slices this game for college football picks against the spread, it’s more of a coin flip than the current odds would suggest.

The Roadrunners might have bested the Hilltoppers earlier this season, but that was back in early October. It clearly isn’t holding clout with bettors today as they’ve bet up the Hilltoppers instead. Of course, for those that are looking to back UTSA, this opens up completely new avenues for profit in the betting.

The Roadrunners are sure to court favor as the +125 bet on the moneyline for the outright upset or as the three-point home pups to either cover or win outright. Act fast, though, if this is your choice bet because buyback on UTSA could trigger movement in the opposite direction as kickoff approaches.

A lot has happened since these two sides met on Oct. 9. In the main, the emergence of the Hilltoppers offense has captured the imagination of bettors as one of the most potent in the country behind the electric play of quarterback Bailey Zappe. That fact is drawing bettors toward Western Kentucky in this game to both win and cover as the favorites.

Certainly, momentum is key in such matchups and bettors could do no worse than backing the Hilltoppers in a game that, by all accounts, is expected to be closely fought. Arguably, UTSA has had the better season on paper, but Western Kentucky has all the momentum right now.

For those that are on the fence, the safest bet might be the game total. Yes, 72½ points is pretty high, but if the Hilltoppers’ offense starts firing at all cylinders, UTSA will have to follow suit. Both teams can put up points in a hurry, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a shootout emerged here.
