The Jacksonville State Gamecocks host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in an immediate rematch from last week. While WKU edged Jacksonville, the 19-17 loss was more of a throwaway game for the conference-leading Gamecocks.

This one is the “real” game and is for the Conference USA title where the hosts could unleash their true powers. Hence, the NCAAF odds are accurate and we’re siding with the Gamecocks, who are 3.5-point favorites.

Western Kentucky vs Jacksonville State Picks: 2 Top ATS Bets for C-USA Bowl Game

1. Jacksonville State (-3½)

The Gamecocks did not get up for last week’s game against WKU. This was evident in their total of only 17 points, the fewest in conference games. The last time Jacksonville scored that few was a blowout loss against then-ranked Louisville. We don’t expect this to happen again and that is r the online sports betting odds.

Not only is Jacksonville favored by 4.5 points but the total remains relatively high at 58 points (down from 62 last week). Jacksonville sports a high-octane rushing offense, which scores an average of 37 points and gains 260 yards on the ground (second-most in the nation). The Gamecocks also average over 69 plays at 6.42 yards per.

Of course, the Gamecocks have bloated stats due to their weak strength of schedule (ranked the third-easiest). Still, we expect Jacksonville to gash Western Kentucky as the Hilltoppers have awful rushing defense, per Western Kentucky vs Jacksonville State Stats.

WKU gives up over 206 rushing yards per game, which ranks as one of the worst even with a weak schedule. This is partly why the Hilltoppers are just 1-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games. They’re also just 4-4 ATS in conference games.

Jacksonville has been steadier. It is 4-2 ATS as a home favorite and 5-3 ATS in conference games. Last week was a write-off, and we’ll get the real Gamecocks in this game. Rich Rod is already getting rumors of returning to West Virginia. Instead of viewing this as a distraction, we’ll take it as a “bet on” spot.

The Gamecocks are more motivated. Bet them to win and cover in college football picks ATS.

2. Over 58

Consider last week’s 36-point total an aberration. The average Gamecocks game has totals in the mid-50s as they also allow 27+ points from opponents. And many of these foes are some of the worst teams, like Florida International (31 points) and Louisiana Tech (37). We’re against WKU here, but we’re betting online they’ll put up enough points for our total to go over.

Five of the Hilltoppers’ last seven road games have gone over their totals. That’s mainly due to WKU giving up over 30 points per game at nearly 6.9 yards per play. WKU can’t stop the run and has consistently given up over 230 yards. That’s bad news going against Jacksonville.

The Gamecocks will run the ball with glee and get into scoring range frequently. With Jacksonville’s fast pace and turnover-forcing defense, the Gamecocks can go three-and-out and get the ball back and score.

We’re not worried about WKU stopping Jacksonville. On top of betting on the hosts to win and cover, we’ll add the total to go over in our college football predictions today.

Bet This Pick: Western Kentucky vs Jacksonville State Over 58 (-115)
