Watching the Golden Globes isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, or glass of champagne, but there’s money to be made.
The sportsbook has markets for all major Golden Globe awards and we look at the best value available, including best drama, best actor, and best actress.
Brendan Fraser – Best Actor in Drama
It has been a massive comeback story for Brendan Fraser, straight out of Hollywood.
The once A-list actor was shunned by the big studios, but his role as an obese and reclusive English teacher in The Whale has shot him back into the spotlight.
He has already won awards for the role, so we’re not surprised to see him paying even-money with Golden Globe betting markets.
“When I read it I was like I could be friends with this guy. I identified in many ways about him as a father and had him wanting to reach out to young people to get them to be honest about who they are and I also felt that there was a real story to be told about someone who is locked behind closed doors,” Fraser said.
We are all aboard the hype train and it would make a great story in itself.
Pick: Brendan Fraser (Ev)
Colin Farrell – Best Actor in Comedy or Musical
Speaking of comeback stories, Colin Farrell could be put into that category.
He was highly criticized for his choice of roles at one point, but after starring in The Banshees of Inisherin, he’s back on the map.
The Irish-made movie wasn’t supposed to put Farrell back on the map, but it’s a brilliant performance and it shows that he feels best playing the part of an Irishman, as opposed to someone trapped in a phone booth.
The eagle-eyed viewers will notice both Farrell and Fraser appeared in Scrubs, so there’s a connection and they’d love to receive their Golden Globe awards on Tuesday.
Bettors will have to take short betting online odds for Farrell. He’s the dominant -550 favorite to beat the likes of Daniel Craig and Diego Calva.
Pick: Colin Farrell -550
Top Gun: Maverick – Best Drama
Not in our wildest dreams did we think a Top Gun reboot would win a prestigous award, but the film was actually very good.
Tom Cruise hasn’t aged a day, and the production of the film was outstanding. The actors would fly in the planes with trained fighter pilots and hold the camera while trying to spit out their lines. It’s incredible and it deserves attention.
Look past the half-hearted romance between Cruise and Jennifer Connelly, because there’s nothing there. However, it’s the relationship between Cruise and star actor Miles Teller that steals the show.
The current favorite for Best Drama is Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, but surely they’re sick of giving him awards? Top Gun: Maverick winning would be monumental in the action genre, so we’re picking it for the minor upset.
Pick: Top Gun: Maverick +250
Cate Blanchett – Best Actress in Drama
The award shows love Cate Blanchett and she’s the favorite to win yet another award.
In a role similar to Blue Jasmine, the Australian plays a musician on the brink of completing her finest piece of work. However, not all goes to plan and Blanchett pulls off a stunning performance.
She plays roles like this so well, so the -250 for her role in TAR is worth including in Golden Globe picks.
Her opposition includes Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, and Olivia Colman, who the Hollywood Foreign Press loves. However, they love Blanchett most and we’re happy to take the odds.
Pick: Cate Blanchett -250
John Turturro – Supporting Actor in TV Series
We love John Turturro and he has been overlooked at the award shows on many occasions, especially for his role in The Night Of.
However, he’s back with his role in Severance and it could be enough to see him winning the Golden Glove for best supporting actor in a TV series.
Turturro is the -125 favorite to beat Henry Winkler for his role in Barry. We think Barry has run its course, so that leaves Turturro prime for the win.
The odds are worth taking in what is an even category.
