The 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs finals still remain engraved in teams and fans alike. Against all thinkable possibilities, Evil Geniuses straight swept through (at the time) reigning champions in 100 Thieves to accomplish the team’s first title in professional League of Legends betting at least in North America. From that point on, this has pushed Evil Geniuses to the top of the LCS table in the 2022 Summer Split, this week they now came to battle once more with the team they defeated to achieve that coveted trophy.
Evil Geniuses, who were sitting comfortably in first place
In one of our recent lol bets, we talked about how dominating Evil Geniuses have been throughout the summer split. It was unthinkable to see them dropping this game against the Thieves as EG was comfortably sitting in uncontested first place to finish out the fifth week of the 2022 Summer Split. But a win from 100 Thieves would not only accomplish revenge from the Spring Playoffs but also allow them to push themselves out from the teams in their shadows around the mid-table standings. In succession to a rather slow and patient game, 100 Thieves successfully “upset” their rivals, securing their first win over Evil Geniuses since last Spring.
As we have become accustomed to in North America, neither team looked to apply any risky or aggressive strategies in the early game, analyzing that they both sit at the top ranks of the LCS standings for that same reason. Each time 100 Thieves pushed Evil Geniuses into a fight, they were unable to get past the sustain and tankiness of the opposing champions, while sadly watching them crawl away with the littlest amount of health.
Until a third attempt from Abbedagge to finish Jojopyun finally awarded the team first blood, all the way 15 minutes into the game. Almost immediately after that play, a quadra kill for Abbedagge came out of nowhere at the Rift Herald fight, which pushed their gold lead even higher, all that thanks to a clutch Bailout W from Huhi piloting Renata Glasc.
Further careless pushes and dives from Evil Geniuses sadly increased their gold deficit. While the reigning champs had drafted a composition not lacking damage by any means, much of their true form laid in a clutch initiation from either Vulcan or Impact. Nevertheless, nearly every time either of these initiators went for a play, Evil Geniuses either lacked the damage or positioning to deal said damage in the follow up.
A last stand at Baron went in the favor of 100 Thieves. Even with Abbedagge finally dying after some heroics, the damage dealt by the remaining 100 Thieves members, in conjunction with some great Bailouts and shields from Huhi, lastly brought the team into Evil Geniuses nexus. Which quickly fell down after one single push.
Both of these teams may have the opportunity to meet each other one more time at the LCS Championship in September, should they continue to keep that coveted position on the top of the standings. 100T and EG will move on to week six of the Summer Split looking to improve, even more, to face Dignitas and Immortals respectively.
