2022 Was A Great Year For CSGO Esports

CSGO esports made a spectacular return to LAN in 2022, taking the tournaments to many nations around the world. Fans were overjoyed to be able to travel the world to see their favorite CSGO teams compete live after spending nearly two full years in the shadow of the COVID-19 outbreak, which forced many competitions to relocate online. The viewership figures are live evidence that people who couldn’t attend the event in person were watching them online.

Four of the S-tier CSGO competitions we’ll mention here rank among the top 10 highest peak viewership (PV) events in the history of the scene. The majority of them are well-known and have been running for many years, including IEM Katowice. Some Majors distinguish out from the crowd by being sponsored by Valve in an official capacity. Here are the top five CSGO esports tournaments in 2022, without further ado.

BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022 – 762,885 PV

NAVI only won one S-tier trophy this year, and it was at the Lisbon leg of the BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022. They defeated their competitors, FaZe, OG, and Team Vitality, their route to the trophy. There were 762,885 peak viewers for the event in Portugal and 12,804,165 hours watched during the 45 hours of airing, which is still a significant number of people tuning in to watch online.

IEM Katowice 2022 – 1,122,015 PV

IEM Katowice 2022 was an amazing esports competition. With 1,122,015 peak viewers and 29,936,138 hours watched, the CSGO competition in Poland finished in fourth place in terms of PV. With FaZe defeating G2 Esports in a best-of-five series with a stand-in in the form of Justin “jks” Savage, it delivered one of the greatest finals in CSGO history. It was one of the bloodiest series in history, with FaZe winning 3:0 after overtime on two maps and 30 rounds on the third.

IEM Cologne 2022 – 1,249,426 PV

IEM Cologne grand finals featuring FaZe and NaVi

In CSGO esports, there are two S-tier competitions that are held annually, and they have established themselves as the two most prestigious competitions in the field. IEM Cologne 2022 is one of them, with 1,249,426 peak viewers this year. During its 93 hours of airing, the event received 25,831,189 hours of viewing. The spectators in Germany witnessed FaZe raise their fourth trophy of the year and last trophy of 2022.

IEM Rio Major 2022 – 1,428,993 PV

Despite only having 10 more hours of airtime than the Antwerpian Major, the Major in Brazil recorded an astonishing 69,517,244 hours, the second-best performance in the game’s history (with the most watched being PGL Stockholm Major 2021, in terms of PV and hours watched). However, the Brazilian event “only” had 1,428,993 peak viewers. This number, oddly enough, was generated during the quarterfinal contest between NAVI and FURIA, in which the Brazilians defeated s1mple’s team.

PGL Antwerp Major – 2,133,610 PV

With a staggering 2,113,610 peak viewers, the Belgian Major was the most watched CSGO competition of the year. FaZe Clan won the competition by defeating Natus Vincere, who had been their main competitors for the first half of the year, in the finals match. Additionally, during its 116 hours of airing, the event received 68,098,937 hours of viewing, which was the second-best performance this year.
