Rekkles has always been a top-tier ADC player who serves as “late-game carry”. In other words, when it came to late-game team fighting, the player would always deliver an amazing performance. This is partly because of the way he plays and because of the champions he has always been good at. But there is a huge problem with Rekkles’ team right now.
By going 2-7 in the LEC Winter Split, Fnatic experienced one of the worst splits in the history of the team, placing 9th, just ahead of Excel. Aside from the actual outcomes, the prevailing consensus of the current FNC team is that they are having significant draft problems and are having trouble playing as a team. FNC is now weaker than the sum of its parts, despite having excellent individual players like Humanoid and Rekkles himself.
Rekkles played poorly against stronger early-game champions like Varus since the current meta does not favor him. Drafts do become a disadvantage, and they can’t be overcome in a short amount of time like the Winter Split. Despite the fact that it’s not a major concern on its own, especially if he can deliver later.
Removing Rekkles from the AD position would be fatal even if the meta didn’t match the player, but that’s only if FNC didn’t have a viable replacement. However, FNC does. And they have Upset, who is among the best in that department. The German ADC is still listed as a FNC player on the GCD despite failing to locate a new home in 2023.
This implies that if Rekkles does switch to the support role, he might return to the starting lineup. It would be absurd to fully remove the Swedish player from the team given the incredible value he adds from a business viewpoint due to the famous career he had, combined with the amazing charm he offers. Because of this, forcing him to play as a support would be the best course of action.
Rekkles occasionally plays in the solo queue as support. He noted how it keeps him from having to play with support players who are automatically filled in while also enabling him to learn more about the limitations of particular lanes and matchups. During the offseason this year, he also thought about switching to support, but he ultimately decided to continue playing ADC.
According to his profile, he typically uses Janna as his primary support and had a 62% win percentage against the champion across 100+ games in 2022. Even though there is only one champion, Rekkles might reasonably pilot other enchanters or supports at a high level. On paper, FNC’s bot lane should have more potential if he can develop a solid synergy with Upset, who is renowned for being a decent scaling player who can also play aggressively.
