All You Need To Know About ESL Pro League 18 Group B

With Group B of the ESL Pro League underway, we are once again confronted with an intriguing assortment of teams vying for postseason positioning. In contrast to Group A, this group appears to have a clear frontrunner and clear second and third place teams.

It’s likely that ENCE and Heroic will be among the survivors, but they’ll get to Malta in quite different ways. The question for ENCE is whether they can take down a top-tier tournament and challenge Vitality for first place, while for Heroic it’s whether or not their recent slump in form is just a blip or an indication of something more serious.

MOUZ

This is one of the clubs who will be vying for the final two playoff spots. They are all young and hungry for success. MOUZ took a risk by re-signing Siuhy during the offseason, but the team hasn’t had much success on the field as a result. Monte, on the other hand, have been grinding online games like they usually do, and BIG have also made sure to get a substantial amount of official gametime under their belts.

After reuniting with former academy prodigy Siuhy and promoting another academy product, Jimpphat, things were looking very good for MOUZ in their first three matches following the player break.

The European squad showed up to IEM Cologne in Germany and started their campaign with a best-of-one victory over TheMongolz, albeit a rather arduous one that required an overtime hard-carry from Torzsi After that, they defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas, 2-0, and then Natus Vincere, also by a score of 2-0.

MONTE

Since forming as a team in the middle of 2022, Monte have been a formidable presence in both the online and LAN scenes, and they showed that form in remarkable fashion at the BLAST Paris Major. After making it all the way to the quarterfinals in France, the young squad found themselves in an ideal position to establish themselves as regulars in the top division.

BIG

The top team in German CS completely remade their roster over the player break, releasing three players from their final roster from the previous season. The addition of Mantuu appears to be a step in the right direction, but the decision to instead promote two academy players to the main roster rather than go to an international lineup disappointed many fans.

HEROIC

The Danish squad Heroic seemed rejuvenated after their player break, as they breezed through the Fall Groups bracket, losing only one close game to eventual champions Natus Vincere. Since then, though, the No. 2 team in the world has had less than stellar luck, losing handily to Astralis in the first round of the playoffs at IEM Cologne and coming in third or fourth at Gamers8 after being defeated by ENCE.

There shouldn’t be too many obstacles for Heroic to overcome in this group. Even if Heroic were to lose against ENCE —the only real competition in this group— they would still have a good chance of advancing to the next round. If it’s anything less than that, as cadiaN puts it, “really freaking bad,” it’s a disaster.
