Americas Dota 2 disappoints once again

  • NA Dota has not been at its best for a couple of years.
  • Now they have fallen out of their own local tournament, ESL One Raleigh 2025.
  • Both Shopify Rebellion and HEROIC have already packed their bags.

It might have been expected for American Dota 2 fans to feel bad by the end of the event, as all the teams from the region competing in ESL One Raleigh 2025 have been knocked out. Shopify Rebellion and HEROIC, representing both sides of America, finished dead last in their respective groups, leaving with less than 30K USD altogether. Out in the Group Stage

Reflecting on the ESL One Raleigh Group Stage bouts, Shopify Rebellion ended up losing 60% of their recent series, with the other two not even being positive outcomes as they were draws against Team Liquid and Talon Esports. With standout players like Enzo “Timado” Gianoli and Christian “Pakazs” Savina, along with the guidance of top NA coach Kanishka “BuLba” Sosale, everyone expected to see a different face this time around.

However, what we witnessed from SR was a series of intriguing compositions featuring a variety of non meta heroes, but unfortunately, they didn’t translate into positive results. The lineup struggled to execute with decent timing or overall teamwork. They lost a fixture where their draft was designed to gain tempo early on, only to falter in the late game despite having an economic advantage. At this point, it might be better for SR to stick with the strongest meta in Update 7.38c to focus on team synergy.

Things have changed since David “Parker” Nicho Flores departed from HEROIC. The team has struggled to maintain the same intensity that once made them a formidable opponent after losing their standout player.

However, HEROIC recognizes the problems they face, particularly during their laning phase. This is why they have been consistently choosing the same heroes throughout the group stage of ESL One Raleigh 2025. They need to assess their strategy and execution right from the start of the game.

Solution for a dire situation

American viewers still have a small glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, as several players from the region are actively competing (even if it’s not within an Americas roster). Quinn “Quinn” Callahan is playing for Team Falcons as an emergency substitute, and Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu is leading the organization as captain. Additionally, Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan can be considered an American since he was raised in NA and is currently with the dominant Nigma Galaxy. Lastly, we should also highlight Jonathan Bryle “Bryle” De Guia from up north, who is currently a substitute for TL.
