Another match fixing scandal surfaces within the Dota 2 community

2020 Dota

The 2023 Dota Pro Circuit started rather shaky viewership wise however there are also scandals of match fixing running around, as multiple professional players have been permanently banned from competing on Valve official tournaments due to account sharing or match fixing. Most of the situations in question started from the Eastern European region, and the recent suspect is HYDRA, who also joined the list as the team was recently accused of match fixing by Neon League organizers.

HYDRA as of the moment competes in the 2nd division of the EEU Dota 2 Pro Circuit, at the time of the situation happening the team was attending a third party competition, the Neon League, apparently for practice until division 2 began later in the month.

While it was a simple couple of wins at the Neon League, the admins of the event saw something suspicious during a HYDRA match. According to the statement given to escorenews.com, extremely weird betting amounts for their matchup started to pop up right before the game started.

The bet totals for games within the tournament usually maxed around 40 to 50 dollars, however out of the blue they immediately spiked to a high $6,700, soon after HYDRA lost their match where on paper they were not only better but absolute favorites entirely. HYDRA’s main carry player, Kıyalbek “dream`” Tayirov, has been rumored to be the main suspect and the center of the allegations since he was the worst player for the team in that specific game.

The admins later took the time to research HYDRA’s internal communication records, they managed to find several cases of dream forcing skirmishes and teamfights even after being extremely behind in resources. In one instance of said fights, the carry player was 160 gold away from his power spike. Taking into account that amount of gold is achievable in seconds, HYDRA’s actions were definitely questionable for their level of gameplay.

After the investigation started, HYDRA immediately denied all allegations in the matter, however, the team stated that they have an open door for any sort of cooperation needed in the case. Tournament admins involved in the situation provided all the evidence to Valve, bookmakers, and several other tournament organizers for their own research.

If HYDRA is ultimately found guilty of match fixing, all the players involved within the situation can receive lifetime bans from attending Valve official events, ultimately meaning they would be eliminated out of the EEU division 2 before it even started.

As of the moment it is a waiting game, mainly for Valve to provide their own results in the investigation which could spell disaster for the organization.
