As the free agent period was well under way, the North American Dota 2 scene was on the edge of being non-existent. With the usual sponsors looking to relocate to different regions, as such NA turned into a shadow of its former self in the Dota 2 competitive scene.
An organization showed itself in the form of Arkosh Gaming. Arkosh gave hope to the NA scene showcasing an incredible roster including Steve “Xcalibur” Ye, Max “qojqva” Bröcker, Jaron “monkeys-forever” Clinton, Zakari “Zfreek” Freedman, and Kim “Febby” Yong-min.
While Arkosh’s assistance to the NA scene is admirable, their change from being an actual meme to NA’s last hope is one of the best storylines for the 2023 DPC.
Even after starting as a shadow team featuring Brian “BSJ” Canavan and Andrew “Jenkins” Jenkins, has now turned into an organization that’s searching for NA’s long-lost Dota 2 glory.
Taking into account the latest changes around the region, fans were more than ready to place NA as one of the worst regions overall, but this roster brings some incredible talent to the DPC. EU veterans xcalibur and qojqva are 2 staple names in the team, as they have been around for quite a while.
The EU juggernauts will be beside monkeys-forever and ZFreek, as a South Korean native also joins them in Febby.
Going into our second squad, OG brought Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin over from Eastern Europe to complete its 2023 Dota Pro Circuit squad.
This was a rumored change when OG struggled in finding a suitable offlaner around Western Europe after the team’s decision to cut ties with ATF due to problems with his playstyle compared to the rest of the lineup.
With DM, the team feels like it is the final key piece to unlock their true potential, taking an offlaner that will provide a more team-oriented playstyle to adjust for the rest of the players.
OG captain Misha stated the following:
“DM is an amazing player and human being, he has a very precise approach to Dota and puts his mind into his gameplay every day, very excited to play with him! I believe that DM will fit well into our team and bring some cool and exciting ideas”
DM’s main objective will be to jell Yuragi and bzm’s frontline, while doing the same with Taiga and Misha’s backline. This showcases the hopes the back-end office has with adding versatility to a team that missed it in the second half of 2022, after the Stockholm Major win specifically, this will keep things flexible and not entirely focused on one style of play for OG.
