Aspas officially joins former direct rivals Leviatan for VCT 2024

The main question during VALORANT’s 2023-24 off-season revolved around the destination of Aspas, as the current VCT Americas 2023 MVP was formerly looking for a new home for next season. Today, we finally received some news on Aspas’ future organization. This move is definitely considered an esports gamble, but the Brazilian is confident it will pay off.

There was a significant chance that he would continue his affiliation with LOUD, however, this prospect swiftly dissipated soon after the announcement of his free agency status. Despite the plethora of potential destinations across the different regions, he has opted for a team founded in South America, which is considered to be LOUD’s direct rivals.

The renowned duelist and former champion has formally signed with Leviatan, securing his initial transition after his affiliation with LOUD back in 2022. Initially reported by blix.gg in late September, the verbal agreement has now fully progressed into an official signing. This development holds immense significance for Leviatan, as it represents the biggest acquisition they have done since its establishment as an organization, while also marking the introduction of the first Brazilian player within a squad with mainly Argentinian and Chilean-led entities.

If there is a singular aspect that has consistently accompanied Aspas since his incorporation into LOUD, is his passion and incredible mechanics. The 20-year-old entered the league as one of Brazil’s most promising talents, and his impact on LOUD was evident, becoming their best player in a matter of weeks.

Aspas showcased regional dominance and persevered through some of the most challenging and captivating matches witnessed by VALORANT fans, lastly securing his championship at VALORANT Champions 2022. He was rewarded with the title of Grand Finals MVP for his exceptional performance piloting Jett, and despite the character’s subsequent nerfs, he continues to be regarded as one of the most gifted Jett players to date.

The previous season had a plethora of lows, but LOUD persevered through them and focused on maintaining their regional supremacy as they transitioned from participating solely in Brazil to engaging in the newly partnered VCT league. The team achieved a commendable 1st place finish in the regular season, yet, apart from an exceptional performance in their inaugural LOCK//IN tournament, they fell short of reaching any finals in 2023.

It was widely expected by fans that changes would occur during the off-season, particularly with the expiration of Aspas’ contract. Despite rumors suggesting that he may join other prominent teams such as NRG or BLEED, Aspas ultimately opted for free agency and signed with Leviatán.

As Aspas ultimately chose to remain within his original VALORANT region, and even on his original continent, the superstar will not encounter a significant language barrier. His main challenges will involve adapting to the Jett nerfs and synergizing with new teammates in order to reaffirm his status as the best player in the world, leading into the 2024 season and beyond.
