Cloud 9’s road to redemption at Worlds 2023, after losing the LCS Summer Split
The LCS and the League of Legends World Championship have had a convoluted relationship for a considerable period of time. However, 2022 witnessed a new chapter for North America, with all squads ultimately failing to perform at the international stage. Continue reading for the best gaming predictions!
For a duration of almost a full year, C9 was widely acclaimed as the best team in the LCS, accompanied by a distinct fervor and egocentrism within its roster that caused numerous fans to perceive the team as the “antiheroes” of the 2023 LCS season.

C9 started the year with a substantial amount of momentum, enabling them not only to successfully defend their title in the Spring Split but also to serve as one of LCS’ representatives for the Mid Season Invitational;. However, they were ultimately defeated by the LCK after eliminating their fellow regional opponents, Golden Guardians.
Despite losing their starting mid laner, LCS veteran Jensen, to Dignitas, the team confidently found a suitable replacement in Emenes. His unexpectedly dominant debut on stage halfway through the Spring Split had many wondering if he had just taken the spot of the best mid laner in the region successfully.
However recently, Emenes found himself in hot water after being accused of using derogatory and offensive language towards another player in a ranked match. Riot wasted no time in addressing the issue and Emenes’ attempts to defend his actions via social media were swiftly dismissed. Cloud 9, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a respectful environment at all costs, promptly acknowledged the incident and assured that appropriate action would be taken internally. As a result, Emenes has been rightfully fined by the LCS and will be required to complete a professionalism course before the commencement of the 2024 season. This crucially means he will not miss the 2023 World Championship.
Hello, I’m EMENES, professional gamer from Cloud9. I would like to deeply apologize to the fans for making inappropriate remarks in a solo rank game around September 14. My actions were inexcusable, and I recognize the impact my words have in-game.

C9 has faced a lot of challenges internally in the last couple of weeks, including losing the LCS Championship and Emenes’ controversy. However, these obstacles have not deterred them from preparing for their triumphant return to the international stage. In fact, C9 is one of the strongest contenders from the LCS and has a good chance of bringing the Summoner’s Cup to LCS fans. With a focused approach to their gameplay issues, this could be the year that C9 dominates the competition and upsets everyone’s views on the quality of the LCS.
However their own eccentricism and confidence will be needed if they want to play against the best in the world, especially as they are not known for their teamwork.
