Cloud9 Demolish Reigning Champions Evil Geniuses to Grab Spot for Worlds 2022

Evil Geniuses has not played on the LCS stage since two weeks ago, and the reigning champions sadly were not able to show up during the 3-1 Summer Playoff loss against hyped Cloud9. Cloud9 absolutely demolished the NA LCS top seeded team to grab North America’s second spot at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship.

Cloud9’s victory secures their place in Worlds 2022

Despite claiming the first seed in the playoff bracket, Evil Geniuses was quickly eliminated from the upper bracket of the LCS Championship by a momentum riding Cloud9 team, losing as many games in this series as they did throughout all of the 2022 LCS Summer Split.

C9 came strongly from the get go, with a clutch victory in game one of the series, almost having a perfect deathless game with a 15-1 kill scoreline against Evil Geniuses. After that, they won two of the last three games of the series, giving Evil Geniuses no chance to come back, even after the one win they were able to muster.

Going into the fourth and final game of the series, it was quite slow compared to previous games as it didn’t have first blood until the 19 minute point, but its first team fight was where Berserker’s Zeri went ballistic showing his true prowess on the champion. He managed to pick up four kills and led the push for Cloud 9 into the late game. He’d go on to end the series winning game with a total of eight kills, while finishing the series with a total scoreline of 24/8/16 and a 5.0 Kill/Assist to Death Ratio. Berserker played Zeri the most in the series within three of today’s four games.

Evil Geniuses looked the most underwhelming they have all season during this series with a clean sweep almost in place. Contrary to Fudge’s claims in a previous interview, Cloud 9 current mid laner Jensen praised Evil Geniuses during a post match interview in the broadcast, stating “EG is the best team and the toughest opponent we had to face.”

Even though Evil Geniuses were able to pick up a game within the best of five series, Cloud 9 still carried their momentum from the previous games well enough to prevent any kind of comeback push by the reigning champs.

Fudge in particular came with a vengeance and seemingly a statement to make, recording an impressive scoreline of 11/6/20 across the four games in the series, while his main purpose being to assist the team in any way possible from the top lane role. He switched between aggressive champions in the first two games to then pick defensive tanks in the final two games and secure the series.

With this win under their belts, Cloud 9 has advanced to the upper bracket semifinals of the 2022 LCS Championship, where 100 Thieves wait patiently for them on Saturday, September 3rd, so make sure to stay tuned as we’ll be sharing our esports picks throughout the week. As well, Cloud9 has finally secured a spot in 2022 Worlds.
