NA is Hopeful

Sitting comfortably in the 2-1 bracket, the odds for Team Liquid and Complexity making it to the PW Shanghai Major 2024 were quite high. Complexity secured their spot earlier with a solid 2-0 victory over M80. Both EliGE and floppy played exceptionally well, and with all members seamlessly playing well around each other, they had the perfect recipe for qualification.

Liquid’s match was a bit more intense, as they had to go to a 3rd map against Brazilian side FURIA. Both teams were expected to qualify in the first place, so it was unfortunate to see them battling it out in the lower bracket. In the end, Team Liquid emerged victorious, putting behind them the disappointment of not qualifying for the previous Major. Most notably, they managed to pull through even with YEKINDAR almost destroying their playbook, which continues to be a major concern for the North Americans.

The other side of the coin

FURIA and M80 are really in a tough spot right now, almost at the last chance to make it to the Shanghai Major 2024. Even if they both win their fixtures in the lower bracket, they might still have to battle it out in a tiebreaker for qualification. It’s a pretty rough situation for both squads.

The Brazilians are expected to be the top team left in the event, but MIBR and paiN Gaming have already locked in their spots for the Major. FURIA can only blame their opening loss to Legacy for their current predicament. Losing to Liquid isn’t a big deal on paper, but they probably feel frustrated that they had to face such a tough opponent in the upper bracket.

As for M80, they are at risk of not qualifying, even though they were expected to make it. They’ve performed well at LAN events this year, so not making it this time would be a big setback not only for the team but for the entire organization. On top of that, M80 is looking to get some financial returns from their investment in Counter Strike 2, and making it to the Major is a crucial part of that sustainability.
