Doran and Breathe amongst Best Top Laners at Worlds 2022
Worlds 2022 is set to start in just a couple of days, soon to highlight some of this year’s best League of Legends battles.
With a total of 24 teams all looking for the coveted Summoner’s Cup, both veterans and youngsters will be trying to show their worth on the biggest stage. Every role will be a key factor to win it all, but with the current meta of the 2022 Worlds patch likely moving into the upper sections of the map, the top lane mains will have to bring their A-game every single time. This showcase will include not only the best individual players but also who we consider will have the biggest impact within the Rift.
Doran – LCK Gen.G
If we’re analyzing Doran’s overall performance throughout the split, he probably doesn’t stand out at all compared to other top laners, especially knowing he is part of the Gen.G superteam with top tier talent such as Chovy and Ruler. Nevertheless, Doran has accomplished his role extremely well… being Gen.G’s safe lane and pressure sink.
Whether he’s playing Aatrox, Ornn, or other self-sustaining champions, Doran has the ability to make an impact and not fall behind. He has the highest KDA from all other top lanes in the LCK, with the lowest average deaths per game, as well as the highest CS per minute for his lane. In other words, he is the model for the weak side top laner.
His greatest advantage, though, might also be his biggest downside. It’s rather difficult for a weak side player to be equally effective when going against the best in the world, so there is a small chance a snowball focus top laner might run with the game due to Doran.
Breathe – LPL Royal Never Give Up
Breathe officially joined Royal Never Give Up after the end of the Mid-Season Invitational around June, following a rather unexpected agreement with BibiBili Gaming that switched him and Bin between both teams.
For anyone that does not follow the LPL, Breathe is the quintessential duelist top laner and most likely one of the best in the world at that play style.
Even though he did not receive a lot of resources from his teams, he is incredible at keeping up with pressure and gold by himself. Breathe is known in the league for being extremely good with Fiora and relatively strong with champions that excel in isolated skirmishes or “one versus one” situations. When it comes to split pushing and off-map pressure, he is the man for you.
While many in the community may not see him as the usual top laner, we expect him to show his true mechanical prowess in this event. His downside is rather apparent, team fighting, which is definitely lacking in the decision-making and engagement department. Nevertheless, Breathe will look for his teammates to compensate for this flaw, while at the same time stomping the enemy top laner to oblivion.
