EG completes roster with 2 former 100 Thieves players – League of Legends

EG Roster – League of Legends

After several days of silence and rumored switch-ups, League of Legends free agency period is now officially open and already including blockbuster moves.

One of the best teams in the LCS currently, Evil Geniuses has started their path in the market.

Per Evil Geniuses’ social media, ex-100 Thieves top lane main Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho and bot lane carry Victor “FBI” Huang are set to sign for the squad on the 2023 season.

Coming into this year’s offseason, Evil Geniuses were not really surrounded by rumors or even possible changes for the roster.

The 2022 LCS Spring Split champions already have an All-Star mid-lane main in Jojopyun, veteran support Vulcan, and MVP award winner Inspired under contract for the next couple of seasons. On top of that, all 3 players performed relatively well the last split, helping the team to win an LCS title, reaching the Mid Season Invitational semifinals, and attending Worlds at home.

However, main roster bot laner Danny missed quite a lot of the 2022 LCS Summer Playoffs and EG’s Worlds run due to a mutually agreed mental rest. With Danny’s future still uncertain and Kaori flying back to Europe with Karmine Corp, EG had to sign an entirely new bot lane.

Then reports started to surface on FBI to join the main EG squad, which were later confirmed by the organization.

The signing makes sense on paper, to be fair. FBI still has the quality to jump from one title contender team to another, Evil Geniuses take a consistent native player, and 100 Thieves afterward thanks to the move can bring Doublelift back to the LCS for 2023.

Where everything went not according to plan for EG was in the top lane. The impact was the veteran rock of Evil Geniuses at the time, and still, one if not the best top laner in the NA LCS. Nevertheless, EG decided it was time for him to go, and at first, looked for Academy player Tenacity before the signing was cut off by 100T. Not being able to grab the top lane prospect, EG then decided to sign another former 100T player in Ssumday for the active roster.

Impact is rumored to sign for FlyQuest, while Ssumday has now been confirmed by EG as their new starting top laner via social media.

With the free agency window going full swing, now is time for teams throughout the global League of Legends ecosystem to surprise fans with their next steps.

Currently, in the LCS only 2 teams, Golden Guardians and Evil Geniuses are officialized for next season.
