EG completes upset against LOUD – VCT Masters Tokyo

LOUD has always been the bane of every single North American squad even before franchising was introduced. Evil Geniuses even lost to them right before heading to VCT Masters Tokyo, however EG came to the international event with a different face. On June 15th’s rematch, Evil Geniuses managed to outplay LOUD and close out the series 2-0 against the #1 seed from the Americas.

Evil Geniuses playbook and executes were simply better than LOUD’s, with their attacking side being extremely stable throughout both games. As the #1 seed, everyone expected LOUD to wake up at some point and start stringing some rounds together, however EG’s charm Alexander “jawgemo” Mor went ballistic with Raze and Omen against them.

The series itself was defined thanks to jawgemo, with the duelist main having 2 incredibly crucial moments to close things out. The first present on map 1 Fracture with him starting a well coordinated execute,  and the other on map 2 Ascent with him entry fragging to perfection.

Fracture showcased aggression from EG, most notably a round 3 execute on B site, where the squad used every single bit of utility they had to clear out the site. LOUD’s Saadhak was not able to sustain everything thrown at him, including: Breach’s Fault Line, Raze’s Paint Shells, Killjoy’s Nanoswarm, and Sova’s Hunter’s Fury to finish him off.

In map 2 however, it was LOUD’s own mistake which gave EG massive momentum. LOUD’s Tuyz missed an open shot against jawgemo at the start of the round. Tuyz trigger discipline was way too patient, waiting a lot of time to kill jawgemo in order to hopefully gather more free information. Out of nowhere, jawgemo decided to check his backside and in a rather comical manner saw Tuyz looking directly at him, ultimately shooting Tuyz and taking a free kill.

We have previously seen situations where discipline and patience pays off, but this wasn’t one of them. Jawgemo ended the matchup with a total of 43 kills, and a plethora of clutch plays to make him the MVP of the series.

EG’s Ethan via postgame interview:

Teams like that, they’re not new. We know what they do and they know what we do” “It would be different against a team we haven’t played before. We are lucky to be here, but we’re showing we can hang with the big dogs and I hope we can keep our undefeated run going.

EG have secured their place in the upper bracket, with their next series set for June 19th. As for LOUD, they are now in the losers bracket where if they lose a single series we will see them flying back home.
