ENCE Celebrate As They Kick Off EPL With A Win, And Sign Female Team

Even though ENCE won their first game of ESL Pro League Season 18 with a victory over Evil Geniuses, the North American team gave the reigning IEM Dallas champions a scare with their inside executes on Nuke, something that Alvaro “SunPayus” Garcia and Guy “NertZ” Iluz admitted surprised them in an interview after the game.

The Spaniard also addressed the lack of enthusiasm coming from the ENCE side by discussing the psychological effects of being the favorite against the underdog in a tournament like the ESL Pro League.

The series went pretty much as predicted, with ENCE dominating the first game on EG’s Mirage choice despite a close score in the Nuke match.

Even though Walco’s team managed a few rounds to start the second half, NertZ and Pawe “dycha” Dycha’s dominance ensured that ENCE would have the lead going into their own Nuke pick.

Before ENCE got their footing, Evil Geniuses dominated the early going, winning the first four rounds. However, after that, SunPayus took charge and led his side to a great offensive effort, increasing their advantage to 9-6 before EG once again narrowed the distance to open the second half.

After a tense back-and-forth in the last moments of the map that ended in a 14-14 stalemate, ENCE tightened their play to win the next two rounds and the game.

Meanwhile, the Aces core that competed in ESL Impact Season 3 Europe and ended in eighth place with a 2-2 record has been signed by ENCE as the team’s first female players.

At ENCE, we have had our eyes on women’s Counter-Strike and, in particular, on the Impact league for a while,” said Niklas Ojalainen, ENCE’s General Manager.

Over the course of the past year, we have been offered contracts with a number of different squads, but we have settled on a starting lineup of five guys. It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to get this far in the Counter-Strike scene.

Sead Jahovic, who played briefly with the legendary FPL-C hybrid club Tikitakan alongside players like Lotan “Spinx” Giladi and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan, as well as in Real Betis with a young Cai “CYPHER” Watson, will be the squad’s coach.

We have big goals as a team that we hope to achieve soon,” the coach said. “These include qualifying for the ESL Impact LAN and winning the season. Additionally, we want to participate on HLTV’s #180 level versus men’s teams.

ENCE Athena is formed by:

  • Lotta “Waldee” Liesmala
  • Milona “miLo” Tiainen
  • Halat “Missy” Naby
  • Tude “oxycet” Gürsoy
  • Oleksandra “manka” Kruspe

On September 13, ESL Impact Season 4 Europe will begin, and ENCE Athena will be there to compete.
