ENCE Overcomes MIBR To Secure EPL S18 Playoffs Spot
ENCE won an epic series against MIBR, securing victories on Vertigo (22-18) and Ancient (16-11) after suffering a loss on Anubis (17-19).
Taking ENCE to double overtime on Vertigo and breaking the Europeans’ 9-game victory run on Anubis, MIBR put up fantastic performances to start the series. On the original map, Raphael “exit” Lacerda, Felipe “insani” Yuji, and Rafael “saffee” Costa were all monsters. Even with Costa leading the way, the Brazilians were unable to finish the series on a positive note.
ENCE was disorganized during most of Vertigo, but they came together at the right time to win the map. Despite being outplayed on Anubis for once, Europe won the series easily courtesy to Guy “NertZ” Iluz and their superior performance on Ancient.
ENCE will face BIG in a must-win game for playoff positioning, while MIBR will face Monte in the lower bracket.
The Brazilians came out strong in the first game of the series, which was MIBR’s choice of Vertigo. MIBR gained the offensive advantage after winning the pistol and converting the try, and they capitalized on a poor start from ENCE by using a balanced approach to take the first half, 8-7.
MIBR maintained control of the game and went to a 13-10 scoreline on CT despite succumbing to a second-round force after winning the pistol. Alvaro “SunPayus” Garcia and NertZ had been showing up on the server for a while when the rest of ENCE began to come up. This allowed the European team to force overtime despite having match points taken away from them.
Even though they had to save a match point in overtime, Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer and the rest of ENCE seemed confident as they won the final four rounds of the map to claim a 22-18 triumph.
Then, when it was ENCE’s turn with Anubis, MIBR once again delivered a formidable performance. ENCE jumped out to an early 5-3 defensive lead after their CT aggression caught MIBR off guard. However, the Brazilians bounced back magnificently, with insani’s tremendous aim propelling them to seven consecutive rounds and a 10-5 lead.
A crucial 1v3 pistol clutch for MIBR was picked up by NertZ against ENCE’s T side, as insani maintained his dominant play to preserve the team’s slim lead. Like on Vertigo, ENCE’s offense came to life in the fourth quarter, putting pressure on MIBR. The European team scored five straight to reach match point, but MIBR scored two of their own to send the game into overtime for the second time.
With their crossfires proving accurate on the CT side and their scorching attacks being effective on the T side, MIBR were a different beast in overtime, eventually sealing a 19-17 victory and sending the series to Ancient.
MIBR ran out of steam on the last map of Ancient, which may have been due to NertZ’s phenomenal 37-frag performance. Even though saffee had a number of clutches and MIBR made it close at the conclusion of the map, ENCE came out on top, 16-11.
