ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 is ready to start

Following The International 12 (TI12), Dota 2 squads from all over the world have been reorganizing and getting ready for the upcoming ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, which will be their first significant test. Twelve of the top teams in the world will play in ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, which is scheduled for December 11–17, 2023. 9 teams advanced via the qualifications, leaving three teams that received direct invitations. A total of $1,000,000 USD in prize money is up for grabs.  Kuala Lumpur is a showcase for some of the most intriguing teams to watch out for in the professional Dota 2 season of 2024, as several of the teams participating were established following the post-The International (TI) 2023 roster change. There will be a 3-day group stage to start the competition. 2 groups of six teams each will comprise the twelve teams in total. Each group’s top two teams advance directly to the postseason upper brackets. Meanwhile, the 3rd and 4th teams will have to compete in the lower groups. The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre will be packed with fans for the playoffs. Every playoff game will be determined in a bo3 format, with a best-of-five matchup serving as the championship match. Whilst the Playoffs will be held in front of live viewers, they will also be aired online but the Group Stage will be exclusively online.

The Top four teams at TI 2023, which featured the recently proclaimed two-time TI champions Team Spirit, 3-time Major champions Gaimin Gladiators, and Chinese powerhouses LGD Gaming and Azure Ray, were among the teams that were first directly invited. However, because of health concerns, Team Spirit pulled out of the competition. A second qualifying slot for Western Europe was later assigned to replace the original slot intended for Team Spirit.

It’s interesting to note that OG, the current ESL One Malaysia champions, are not on the complete list of teams competing at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. The following teams are all scheduled to compete in the tournament: LGD Gaming (invited), Team Liquid (Western Europe), Team Falcons (MENA), Invictus Gaming (China), TSM (North America), Wawitas Sagazes (South America), Blacklist International (SEA), BetBoom Team (Eastern Europe), Team Secret (Western Europe), Gaimin Gladiators (invited), 9Pandas (Eastern Europe), and Azure Ray (invited).

The prize pool for ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 is set at $1 million, with a US$300,000 main prize. It will also include a separate pool of 19,980 ESL Pro Tour (EPT) points, which will be used in 2024 to decide who gets invited to future ESL tournaments. A commendable $175,000 will be awarded to the runners-up for their achievements.

The remaining 10 best teams will take home a prize pool of $120,000–$25,000, based on where they finish in the competition.

Regarding EPT points, teams who accumulate these important points can move up the Leaderboard and even get a direct invitation to the showdown tournament. The 11 remaining teams will receive 210–3,600 points based on their placement, while the champions will receive 4,800 points.
