After a plethora of underwhelming performances within the organization’s North American CS GO squads, Evil Geniuses has ultimately decided to make some changes. The main change comes in the form of uniting both of their 2 academy lineups, which will result in the sacking of several players.
Evil Geniuses’ reasoning via social media post:
“We are aware that the performance of our CS GO team has been a miss for EG, our fans, and our pursuit at building up North American Counter-Strike.” “Additionally, we are also making the difficult decision of combining our Black and White rosters.”
The organization confirmed that the EG Black and EG White academy lineups will be joining forces under the same lineup, which means that EG will be handling 10 players across a single roster and 1 academy roster from now on.
This roster shuffle from 15 to 10 players ultimately meant the departure of mainly EG White players with only a couple surviving the chop, players departing feature the likes off: Josh “PwnAlone” Pigue, Ben “ben1337” Smith, Jonathan “Jonji” Carey, Wesley “viz” Harris, and Khizar “Momo” Rehman, according to Dust2.us reports. EG White’s head coach, Joseph “Muenster” Lima, will most likely remain under the organization’s umbrella in a different role.
The Dust2.us article also mentions current Evil Geniuses Black “in game leader” Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz is looking for an out and will most likely be replaced by Jadan “HexT” Postma, who is experienced enough as an “in game leader” due to his years around the competitive scene. HexT is reportedly set to be demoted into the academy squad with former Heroic/Sprout “in game leader” Ismail “refrezh” Ali being the main candidate to fill up the spot.
It’s been just a couple of months since Evil Geniuses embarked on a new adventure by signing North American rosters Party Astronauts and Carpe Diem to create a never seen before system that included 15 players. All the players were set to compete in a “fluid” system that would give them play time across different tournaments with 3 separate lineups. The main Tier 1 Evil Geniuses roster was able to attend the Rio Major after a 3-0 run at the NA RMR event, a performance no one from the community was expecting. Nevertheless, Evil Geniuses was not able to do it twice, missing out on qualifying for the Paris Major RMR, a result unheard of for the organization.
Lastly the organization did mention via the same statement that they continue to trust valens as their Director of Athletics, suggesting most of the changes are coming within the roster not on the front office.
