Evil Geniuses Dominate CLG In LCS Spring Split Playoffs

Throughout most of the LCS 2023 Spring Split, Evil Geniuses were unquestionably the third-best team. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the squad was forced to play the remaining games remotely before losing their grasp on the third spot and entering the playoffs in fifth place.

CLG, on the other hand, had been fairly inconsistent during the LCS 2023 Spring Split regular season, leaving many wondering if they would even make it to the postseason. However, a strong effort in Week 8 propelled CLG to fourth place in the regular season rankings. While they entered the series after a 3-1 loss to Cloud9, expectations were high for this match to be a nail-biter.

Things were tense between the two squads at the start. While CLG showed flashes of brilliance with their team sets around fights, execution was all over the place. This was something Evil Geniuses took advantage of in games one and two, winning all of these fights. This resulted in a 2-0 lead for Evil Geniuses, who rapidly reached match point.

With CLG’s LCS 2023 Spring Split on the line, the team put together a strong lineup versus Evil Geniuses. While Evil Geniuses had the early turret lead around the 15-minute mark, CLG had the early game tempo edge, accumulating a 5k gold lead around the 30-minute mark as they postured towards the Evil Geniuses base.

CLG was within striking distance of a game-three victory, but they were unable to find any opportunities to end the game. Despite Palafox’s Jayce’s late-game power increase, it was not enough to close the game, as Evil Geniuses’ flawless team fighting secured a 3-0 victory.

CLG’s excellent series versus Cloud9 in the Upper Bracket of the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs astonished Ssumday. CLG’s coordinated play against the top LCS team particularly pleased him. Regardless, Ssumday went into their Lower Bracket matchup against CLG with optimism.

When asked what he noticed in their play, Ssumday mentioned CLG’s preference for “dive” and “AD mid” compositions. Evil Geniuses’ grasp of the team’s strengths aided them throughout their 3-0 triumph over CLG. CLG had solid setups around objectives for clashes with Evil Geniuses in the first two games but was unable to execute them efficiently due to Evil Geniuses’ preparation.

With this win, Evil Geniuses advanced to the Lower Bracket semifinals, where they will face Golden Guardians on Friday, March 31, 2023. Both teams will compete for the final slot in Raleigh, North Carolina, during Finals Weekend. The winner advances to the Lower Bracket Grand Final against the loser of Cloud9/FlyQuest. For the time being, Evil Geniuses will have a few days to prepare before attempting to win the organization’s second LCS crown.
