FaZe breaks ties with entire VALORANT roster amidst acquisition rumors
FaZe Clan has officially cut ties with their entire men VALORANT roster as of July 24th, this ultimately means all 5 members were sent into the unrestricted free agent pool. On top of that, this process comes at a tough time for the organization, as allegedly FaZe is looking for acquisition opportunities meaning they might pull out of the VALORANT esports scene as a whole.
Andrej “babybay” Francisty, Kevin “poised” Ngo, Phat “supamen” Le, Anthony “mummAy” DiPaulo, and Tanner “TiGG” Spanu are the ones affected by the change. Babybay is the veteran within the squad, as in 2 weeks from today he would have been part of FaZe’s original roster for a total of 3 years.
Several organizations within the North American VALORANT scene have also released their rosters after the 2023 Challengers season, teams such as: TSM, G2, Disguised, and MAD Lions. Of course the main question in everyone’s mind is if FaZe will continue to sponsor a team within VALORANT. Sadly after looking at the organization’s statement, everything points at them leaving the scene.
FaZe via social media announcement:
“We thank all the players and staff who have represented FaZe Clan during time in the scene.”
TSM has already mentioned their plans on re-entering the VALORANT environment after their closure, stating they will look to be operational by the start of the 2024 season. As of the moment FaZe is still sponsoring and currently competing in the Game Changers league, after acquiring the entirety of the CLG Red squad and some Complexity talent. FaZe’s Game Changers squad has also recently qualified for NA’s main event series 2.
Outside of the VALORANT scene, FaZe as an organization was not doing too well even after becoming a “public” stock company. Between internal controversies and outrageous signings it seems the organization left the competitive scene behind, especially for VALORANT. There is a serious worry amongst FaZe’s fan base when it comes to the long term state of the organization, after several reports are almost confirming a potential acquisition.
Earlier in the week, the Sports Business Journal’s Kevin Hitt reported that FaZe was already heavily considering 2 acquisition offers from 2 massive esports and gaming companies. The 2 juggernauts reportedly in talks are: Game Square (current owner of Complexity) and Enthusiast Gaming (owner of Luminosity/Seattle Surge/Vancouver Titans).
Currently the only roster to be let go was the men’s VALORANT lineup, with Faze still competing in other esports leagues within CS GO, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Halo Infinite, Rainbow Six Siege, and Rocket League.
As of the moment of writing no official response has been provided by FaZe or their esports partners.
