FaZe Rolls Over Forze, GamerLegion Knocks Out OG

FaZe Locks In Legends Stage

After defeating FORZE 2-0 in the Challengers Stage of the BLAST Paris Major, FaZe joined G2 and ENCE in advancing to the Group Stage. After winning Overpass 16-12 and Nuke 16-11, the European combo looked to be in command of the series.

Despite his epic Overpass performance, Rain said in an interview after the game that he thought FaZe could still do better. He evaluated the team’s communication with FORZE, which they have admitted is a weakness at the moment:

I’ll give this match a 4 out of 10 because it wasn’t particularly exciting and because I believe we still have plenty to improve upon before reaching the Legends Stage. Good thing we have a few days off to figure things out.

To sum up the current status of FaZe, he said, “I think it’s like karrigan said, we are all hitting shots, we just need that extra spark of motivation and to be able to communicate and make sure everything is clear for your teammates.

The series started on Overpass, FORZE’s pick, and the Russians paid the price with a stellar showing. With the help of the Norwegian’s staggering 23 kills and 170 ADR, FaZe jumped out to a 12-3 CT halftime lead, which they eventually extended to 16-12 thanks to some solid offensive execution.

Similarly, FaZe’s T side had a good first half (9-6) thanks to the efforts of Twistzz, who had 15 kills and nearly 100 ADR. This made it difficult for FORZE to recover in the second half, and they were ultimately unsuccessful; FaZe won 16-12 to advance to the Legends Stage.

After beating OG 2-1 in the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Challengers Stage, GamerLegion have now defeated two teams ranked in the top 15. They have a chance to finish their comeback from a 0-2 deficit on the last day of play in France, where they will enter with a 2-2 record.

With their most recent loss, OG were eliminated from their second Valve-sponsored event, having finished with a 1-3 record, a little worse showing than their 2-3 exit at IEM Rio 2022. Rruggah’s squad had tough competition in the Swiss stage, losing to ENCE, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and an unexpected GamerLegion. The team may have been eliminated early, but they had some incredible moments thanks to degster and FlameZ.

Overpass (13-16) and Mirage (16-8) were both solid wins for OG, and they carried that form into the decisive match against Ancient (7-16). Since they had already lost the same matchup versus GamerLegion at the RMR a month prior, leaving the decider unbanned in the veto could be regarded as their biggest error of the day.

For siuhy’s squad, iM was the day’s most valuable player thanks to his 1.30 series average rating and 1.45 impact score. Now, GamerLegion must wait until Thursday to find out who they will face in their Legends Stage matchup.
