FNS and s0m return with Demon1 benched

According to reports, NRG Esports is adding Pujan “FNS” Mehta and Sam “s0m” Oh back to the lineup and benching Max “Demon1” Mazanov, the winner of the 2023 Valorant Champions. Under FNS’s direction in 2023, the club did not see the same level of success in 2024. After adding Demon1, Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, and Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen to their roster during the off-season, NRG was unable to participate in VCT Masters Shanghai and Madrid. Sheep Esports reports that NRG is reorganizing its lineup in light of the fact that the upcoming VCT Americas Split 2 will be its final opportunity to qualify for an international event.

Surprising move

Even with Demon1 and NRG’s below-average performances in the first half of the 2024 season, the decision seems unexpected. With Ethan leading the team throughout games, the squad has struggled; they finished last in their group in stage one, missing Masters Shanghai, and missed Masters Madrid during Kickoff.

NRG’s team appears to be worse even though they did a significant roster revamp after finishing 9–12th at VALORANT Champions 2023. Alongside superstar Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen, the group signed Champions winners Max “Demon1” Mazanov and Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, making headlines. However, they only kept Austin “crashies” Roberts and Victor “Victor” Wong. NRG is placing all of its eggs on the VALORANT core of FNS, s0m, crashies, and Victor in the midst of the downturn. FNS, Victor, and crashies were all a part of OpTic Gaming’s winning squad in 2022, although they most famously placed second at the VCT Americas League in 2023.

NRG will save some money even though FNS and s0m aren’t inexpensive players by any means because s0m is a free agent and FNS is merely a streamer operating under G2’s sponsorship.

Marved and Demon1 out

Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen, the controller player, was allegedly already being moved by NRG to the bench in between stages. With Marved and Demon1 out of the picture, the NRG lineup would probably consist of Victor returning as the main duelist, FNS taking over as the in-game commander, Ethan going back to his flex role, and s0m on controller.

Although neither NRG nor any of the players have officially acknowledged the rumored alterations, this action would undoubtedly upend the VCT hierarchy and affect NRG’s season projections. The team will play Sentinels in a much awaited return to the VCT Americas stage on June 22 in the crucial stage two.

Downhill results

The roster’s demise began when they were defeated by Paper Rex, who at the time was using a substitute, at Masters Tokyo. The lineup was eliminated from the competition at the upcoming VALORANT Champions 2023 after losing twice to Bilibili Gaming in the group round. The outcome caused an implosion, which caused FNS, s0m, and ardiis to depart. Later, Ardiis returned to his old FPX teammates in Natus Vincere, and FNS started streaming with s0m. Thousands of regular visitors watched their streams when they were playing together. When the two organized watch parties alongside Tarik throughout VCT America’s regular season, their popularity peaked. With VCT 2024 here, keep an eye on all of our content as we’ll be covering all the action VALORANT has to offer.
