Unexpected win for G2

G2 faced off against French squad Vitality, ultimately prevailing thanks to an injured Bee roster. Despite a commendable performance from stand-in JACKZ, Vitality fell short as G2 clinched the semifinals with a score of 2-1. G2 started strong, winning the first map decisively, but Vitality made a notable comeback on Inferno, creating a tense moment going into map 3. Nevertheless, G2 showcased their skills on Mirage, earning their 4th Grand Final spot of 2024.

This series was predominantly defined by m0NESY, the young superstar, who has emerged as one of the best players in the Counter Strike scene. In our view, he is currently the best player globally, capable of overcoming any team on his own when he is in top form. In this match, he achieved an impressive 63-36 kill to death ratio, even as teammates like malbsMd and huNter struggled to find their rhythm. With m0NESY performing at this level, G2 is poised for success in any challenge they face.

Tougher than anticipated

Spirit faced a challenging path to the finals, yet they successfully secured a spot alongside G2 in the Grand Final by overcoming a revitalized Astralis. Each team managed to claim victory on their chosen maps, with Spirit winning on Dust 2 and Astralis on Vertigo. However, the decisive match on Ancient highlighted a significant disparity in creativity, illustrating Astralis’ current struggles to compete consistently against top 5 squads. The commanding 13-5 score in the final match emphasized this gap quite clearly.

It was encouraging to catch a glimpse of vintage dev1ce in this match, despite the disappointing final map. He displayed promising signs of regaining his individual 1v9 form, which bodes well for Astralis’ future endeavors. On the other hand, Spirit benefited significantly from an outstanding performance by chopper who demonstrated to his younger teammates the importance of leading by example. It is fair to say d0nk was also an absolute menace, recording one of his best performances to date, mainly thanks to his captain taking a lot of the pressure from him.

Now we will have to wait and see what G2 and Spirit have in store for us, as both sides are quite close in their overall results this tournament.
