The finals at the BLAST World Final 2024 event did not deliver the competitive showdown we had hoped for; instead, it was a decisive victory for G2 over Team Spirit. Across Mirage, Anubis, and Dust 2, Team Spirit never appeared poised to secure a win, with chopper being thoroughly strategically outmaneuvered by Snax in a commanding 3-0 result. This match showcased G2’s remarkable individual talent, which can be a bit inconsistent at times.
m0NESY delivered impressive flicks, and his consistent performance positions him as a strong contender for the title of the best CS2 player globally in 2024. Notably, IGL Snax achieved a positive score for the first time in over 30 fixtures. Both NiKo and malbsMd consistently troubled Spirit with trade kills, while huNter chose the final map to excel in order to close things out, contributing 27 frags.
We have reiterated this point previously, and it bears repeating. Although G2 experiences significant struggles, their peaks are remarkably elevated. When the team is performing at its best, it is truly a sight to see. The focus now shifts to the Shanghai Major, where NiKo aims to secure his first Major title, likely in what is expected to be his last tournament under the G2 Esports brand.
Fell short once again

Such a performance is simply unsustainable for winning a Counter Strike tournament. Typically, Spirit performs well on the T side, particularly with a player like donk in their lineup, making their struggle in this instance quite surprising. However, if there is any silver lining for Spirit fans from this event, it is the identification of a specific area for improvement ahead of the Shanghai Major. T sides like this are not conducive to winning tournaments, especially in such a tense situation such as the Grand Final. It is intriguing to note their ongoing difficulty in overcoming G2, in their last 12 encounters, G2 has emerged victorious in 11. It is fair to say, this is a hurdle Spirit must address promptly, if they want to grab at least one title before 2025 ends.
