G2’s m0NESY continues dominance at IEM Cologne – CS GO

When you think of high rated players in current CS GO, ZyWOo and dev1ce come to mind, and both have actually performed incredibly well at IEM Cologne 2023. However one promising youngster has outdone himself this time around, pushing G2 into a new level.

The Danish AWPer and the Frenchman demigod are tied for second place in the tournament’s rating table, according to HLTV statistics. The #1 spot is held by G2 Esports’ m0NESY, currently recording a massive 1.33 rating right before the playoffs stage.

G2 superstar m0NESY

G2’s IEM Cologne campaign has been spotless thus far, losing a single map in both their series against Astralis and Team Vitality, 2 favorites to win it all in Germany. G2’s 18 year old super star has become a highlight reel during the group stage, improving massively from his previous tournament where he recorded rather underwhelming results.

BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2023 was statistically m0NESY’s worst performing event ever since joining G2 back in 2022. Nevertheless, at IEM Cologne 2023 m0NESY has already met his quota of clutches, including a staggering ace against Astralis on Inferno where he landed 4 headshots with only a Desert Eagle.

M0NESY’s journey has been one of greatness, with his competitive playing stint starting with Ukrainian organization NAVI Junior, who have recently nurtured and sold incredibly talented young prospects. Since his early days m0NESY has been touted as a future CS Hall of Famer, especially after he managed to rank as the #7 best player in the world by HLTV in his first TIer 1 year.

On top of that, other members of G2 Esports that also had a slow 2022 are starting to heat up in the event. NiKo has been one of a set of superstars that has not performed as expected in the last couple of events, however at IEM Cologne he has found a great playstyle right beside m0NESY in the clutch. In-game leader HooXi has become an emotional force for the squad, constantly screaming when a massive play happens in their favor. Lastly both huNter– and jks are constantly creating distractions and support for their superstars to thrive.

G2’s sudden rise in performance is almost inexplicable as the roster has not really changed much since m0NESY’s introduction, thus it simply seems to be a massive improvement from their last tournament. G2 have outplayed every team they faced at IEM Cologne thus far, rewarding them with a bye into the semifinals stage. Over there they are set to face either Heroic or Astralis, depending on who wins their quarterfinals bracket.

G2’s next series has been scheduled for Saturday, August 5th.
